Jim's Lodge

Another good one is located right behind the old American embassy on Soi Ruam Rudee and about 1.5 blocks away from Lumpini's front gate, Jim's Lodge, usally around 1200B I think, well managed and clean, stayed there many times, good location.
Good luck and have fun

Quiet lodging in Bangkok

One I would recommend is Jim's Lodge, located on soi Ruamrudee just off Ploenchit rd. Located on a very quiet street, no bars, no ladies walking the streets, reasonably priced and clean. It's about a 10 minute wlak to the sky train going to the right to Ploenchit out of the hotel. Going left and around the corner you will run into Wirelss Rd next to the US Embassy and across the street from Lumpini park. Also just down the rd on Wirelss is the night bazaar. Asia Hotel is also in this area but across the street the other way on Ploenchit, although not as quiet.
Good luck

Jim's Lodge Bangkok

Johns, hey always a good idea to let Vtr's know where your home is, it helps in answering your posts.
Anyway, I would suggest Jim's Lodge of soi Ruamrudee rd in the Ploenchit area. Pretty cheap, clean, quiet as it is off the main roads and is walking distance, 5 minutes to either Wireless Rd near Lumpinee Park or Ploenchit rd 8-10 minutes and another couple to the MRT. Staff have always been friendly and acommodating. jimslodge@yahoo.com
The previous poster mentioned Chinatown, personal preference, but I think it is way too noisy and congested for me there, although I love the place and go there every time I visit Bangkok I would not want to stay there overnight. But it also depends on what part of town you want to be in too.
Good luck and have FUN!

Jim's Lodge: Spartan but comfortable

This is a boutique hotel about 15 minutes walk into Soi Ruamrudee, almost opposite the Conrad Hotel and with Ploenchit Skytrain Station but outside the main road (Ploenchit Road).

The rooms are spartan and no frills though you do get that TV with a number of satelite channels and a mini fridge. The rooms are comfortable for a night of sleep though, just don't expect 5 stars luxuries. The washroom is a little small, with only the shower curtain preventing the toilet seat from getting wet while you are bathing.

There is a rooftop jacuzzi though and it doesn't look half-bad.

There is an Internet portal in the lobby.

The in-house restaurant "Potpurri" offers breakfast, lunch & dinner and the food is alright though it had been moderated down in terms of spiciness to suit staying guests.

Airport transfer can be arranged for about 1000Baht (per van) one way.

Unique Quality: Possibly the rooftop jacuzzi on a good sunny day.

Quiet and cheap

Clean, comfortable, affordable place in a section of Bangkok that is quiet but still close to things. The management and staff are helpful. The owner was a student at Georgetown in Washington, D.C, so his English and understanding of westerners is very good.
