booking tickets
by GPAP
Hi everybody!
I would like to know your opinion on how long before the trip i should book for tickets to get the best deals.
I want to travel from Athens to Bangkok leaving Dec 18 and coming back Jan 5th but it seems that there are no good deals at this point. for example i ve flew roundtrip with qatar airways to bangkok with 460euros and now i can t find anything less than 660.
any suggestions?

Dec 15 - Jan 15 is absolutely peak season, so the chance you will find anything cheaper is remote.
If the airline and schedule you found suits you, book as soon as possible.

The Christmas New Years holiday season is the most expensive time of the year to fly to Thailand. Not only are the flights more expensive the hotels, especially the expensive ones, are higher priced. This is why they call it "high season!"
If you want a cheaper flight try flying to Thailand at an earlier date, maybe October-November or nearer the end of January.
If that is the only time you have available then you are stuck with the best flight you can get. You also should book a hotel too, at least for the first night or two.
After September 1 the prices will get a little lower (traditionally) if you can leave during that month you will also get cheaper hotels too!
Good luck.

As has already been correctly pointed out, your dates are right in the peak season. Also the general rule for all airlines these days is to book as early as possible to get the cheapest fares.

At that rate for that season ... book it right away !
Last time we paid 830 euro per person from Amsterdam to Bkk, leaving beginning of march & returning beginning of april.

as others have already mentioned, it's the peak season, not only for airfare, but for accommodation too! Hotels will charge extra for rooms, as well as a "mandatory gala dinner" on Christmas eve and New Year's eve.

Girls, get a haircut for 12 USD!
by tina_vietnam
I love to get my hair cut at a L'Oreal salon for only 12 USD! The hairdresser was really putting a lot of effort in cutting my hair and he was so friendly...like almost all Thais!! Big smiles and coffee for free!!!
The Salon is owned by a French lady, so professional 'western'-style haircuts guaranteed!

Bangkok is a city with a lot of skyscrapers. You can from the highest building Baiyoke Tower (open 10.00 a.m.) take great photos to all Bangkok. Another excellent photos to Chao Praya river and Tonburi site you can take from the second highest building State Tower (open after 18.00 p.m.).

Muang Boran - The Sanphet Prasat Palace
by Audrey118
The interior is richly and appropriately decorated with giltwork and glass in- lay patterns. The murals, depicting the story of Narai in ten different reincarnations were superbly executed by the master painter, Prof. Sanan Silakorn. On several occasions from the reign of King Phra Boromatrilokanart onwards, this great palace served as the official hall for royal functions, such as the Coronation Ceremony, and acted as the Audience Hall for foreign ambassadors and envoys during the reign of King Narai the Great. On February 11,1972, the Sanphet Prasat Palace at Muang Boran served as the official reception hall during Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of English's state visit to Thailand.
Loy Kratong: Rivers and Lovers
by Bangkokjoe
What? Loy Kratong festival is pyschotherapy with flowers, and your partner. And also about giving back something to the mother river. Beautifully Thai, it gets to the essence of this relationship and baggage thing. Remember, it is always a good idea to check with your hotel, tour guide, mates, whoever, and see if there is some Thai festival happening. They are usually good fun and most interesting to the detached observer.
Here's the plot to Loy Kratong... Make a floating raft, superstructure of flowers, leaves, candles and a bit of loose change in the middle. You get one, your friend does too. Then tootle off down to the nearest waterway. Join thousands of eager other festival folk doing the same. Float your Kratongs away, in perfect harmony. All your bad thoughts and grotchiness goes with your raft (no need for counselling fees) and the further your kratongs drift together ...the more likelihood you're in the right relationship. Dead easy.
And with hundreds upon hundreds of kratongs lit up down the waterways it's enough to bring a tear to your romantic eye. The photo is of the klong near my house covered with the rafts. Later on the candles floating down the canal reminded me of an Elton John concert when he does that one, "Don't let the sun..." and we all cheered and he waved at us and then he stood up and walked around. But that's Elton John and WE are doing Loy Kratong here.
It is well worth checking with your hotel if there are any festivals going on in Bangkok during your visit. Or you can check your lunar calendar for details - unless NASA has recently crashed a rocket into a meteorite and messed up the schedules.
When Does Loy Kratong Happen and Where?
Hit the waterways in the middle of November. Best to go to the river by BTS if you ask me...
