Which bus do you get on ?
by sourbugger
The two Ronnies (a english comic double act) once said a couple wanted to have children of either sex - boy girl and hairdresser.
Whilst not wishing to be offensive (in our enlightened times) the 'third way' of the ladyboys are tolerated in Thailand.
'Farang' magazine (copyright accepted) recently suggested that Thai TV could do a 'reality' show based on the Ladyboy culture :
Synopsis foe 'Extreme make over' :
Contestants are given free sex changes - the hormones, the sbip, the lot...after the contestants are all healed up and functional they are cut loose at Gullivers Tavern on Khosan Road. The First one to seduce a backpacker without the fellow twigging that his 'beautiful' date was once a man wins a Volkswagen bus cocktail bar. Special bonus prize if they can snag the guy's wallet & passport at the same time. Watching ladyboys trying to get a reaction to their bodies and watching people studiously trying to ignore them !
So many attractions by the river
by ukirsari
I just want to underlining a 'theory' when I got history lesson in the elementary school. Many of big ancient kingdoms starting their golden era by the river. They start to build their power by the riverbanks. As happened in my own country; the Majapahit Empire. Angkor Wat in Cambodia and of course Kingdom of Thailand. I remember that when I go to the klong and find so many wat (vihara, chedi, stupa) which situated nearby the river. Wat Arun, Wat Po, Wat Prakaew, Klong Bangkok Yai, Klong Mon and .... the backyard of Jim Thompson House
Housing.

Many of the Thai people live in this kind of housing even though Bangkok is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Asia.
Perhaps with this in mind you could understand my earlier concern about eating roadside food.
Garland Flowers - Phuang Malai
by RoyJava
Flower-power I always adored in the 60's with the lovely Hippie childeren. I guess it is the smell of nature, and you see in Thailand those special flower-shops of arranging flowers used in decorations. On altars, in shrines and at places special dedicated to their beloved ones I saw these decorations of bright-yellow marigold garlands, by the Thais named "Phuang Malai". Literally that is "Jasmine Garland".
Garlands are also for good luck and worn at birthdays, weddings, graduations (festivals). They has different shapes and are arranged in a unique way, beautifully done with 2 strands of flowers or with a ribbon. The circular form as a necklace also is done in a very artistic way. You can visit the flower market Pak Khlong Market or another, but you can see these garland ornaments on street market, too. It is such a pleasure to watch the women who make these Phuang Malai ...
Lightweight clothes
by catkin
Make sure you pack plenty of lightweight clothes-Bangkok is hot and sticky.
You will need to be covered up well if you visit the Grand Palce and temple complex-no shorts or flip flop type sandals.
