  • This hotel is a sister hotel to The Metropolitan in London at a fraction of the cost. My room was large, comfortable, modern and scrumptious. The bar at the hotel was an urbane scene. The staff was helpful and kind. I felt so coooooooooool staying here. Well worth the cost.

Tucked away in a great location, this former YMCA carries architectural design way into the future with fantastic results.

At this very moment, I'M IN HEAVEN! I am checked into a beautiful (zen yet comtemporary) hotel in Thailand. There is a Bose sound system in the room and I'm listening to the wonderful latest album by Kings of Convenience. An hour ago I had an amazing shower infused with scents of lemongrass coupled with a little piece of loofah. And an hour before that I was soaking- almost naked, cos it was impromptu- in the spa's Jacuzzi, after a workout at the gym... Now I sit at the desk in the room, in my fluffy robe (lemongrass still permeates the room). My job in Phuket, scheduled for next week is cancelled, but right now; I don't give a ***...

The room is large, clean and aethetically pleasing. The bathroom is huge with separate bath tub and shower facilities. A kettle is available, and so is a Bodum coffee pressor. Ice is provided daily and potable water is also replenished regularly. Like most Thai hotels, toothbrushes are NOT provided free-of-charge but they are available cheaply elsewhere. A Bose CD player is available, and so is a DVD player. The LCD TV screen is huge and has CNN, HBO, Starworld, ESPN, BBC etc. One light did not work in my room but since the room was so nice and airy, I did not bother to have it fixed. Not much of a view even though I stayed on a high floor. Food from the 2 restaurants, Glow and Cyan are decent, but I prefer Glow more than Cyan. Service is affable with staff greeting you cheerfully as you stroll in and out of the hotel. Housekeeping threw away my contact lenses by mistake, even though I wrote a note in English and left it near my lenses. The Duty Manager, Citraporn, took the initiative to reimburse a new pair which I made. US$110 a night.

Just next to the Banyan Tree Hotel, the Metropolitan hotel is very close to other top quality hotels. It is also close to Baan Khanitha (http://www.baan-khanitha.com/), a top-quality Thai restaurant with excellent service, approximately 2000 baht per person for a meal. About 400 metres from the Lumphini MRT station (10 mins walk) and about 800 metres from Sala Daeng BTS station (20 mins walk). Walk along Sathorn Road to reach Lumphini MRT station and walk along Soi Sala Daeng to reach Sala Daeng BTS station. Behind Lumphini MRT station is the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, a tourist-friendly night bazaar with plenty of food/drinks and goods on offer. Shops are very well-organized. Also near Lumphini MRT station is a shopping mall, housing Starbucks, Whittard of Chelsea, a hair salon, dental clinic and Boots pharmacy.
