Tourist Hotel at Silom Road
Enjoyed my stay here for a few days at convention held at this hotel venue.
Room was a bit old with Thai decor but fine for value for money. The buffet breakfast on the 2nd floor has both Western and Thai and Chinese spread. Quite a number of European tourists staying at the hotel. There is also a swimming pool but did not use it.
Location is strategic. There is a bus stop nearby, an Indian temple within walking distance as well as shops for making tailored clothes.
Can take the bus or tuk tuk or taxi or even 20 minutes walk to Pat Pong area of restaurant and night entertainment along this Silom Road with tourist shopping stalls setup along the road pavement.
Walked about 10 minutes to the nearby Skytrain station.

Friendly and smiling even at 3AM
We arrived here in the wee hours of the morning after a horrendous trip from Canada...( 13 hours just waiting on the plane in Japan and then a night on the floor in the airport...just to give you the picture)...anyway the Narai cetainly fit the bill for us . The staff were welcoming , and quick to get us into our lovely room.
Unique Quality: Wonderful breakfast in the morning and huge buffet...

Worth it!
Stayed here for 3 nights during soccer world cup time.....
Pleasantly surprised to see the hotel all geared up for the event..
Freindly staff....Nice rooms (took 2 rooms which were adjoining)..Maybe a bit cramped for space but no complaints.. Close to patpong area 8-10 misn walk.....
Decent buffet breakfast ...kind of repeated all 3 days of my visit...but excellent if u ahve a morning flight as breakfast begins at 5am...
Only discomforting fact is that Chong nonsi sky train station is a good 15 mins walk...(we preffered a tuk-tuk ride)...The pooL is nothing gr8 but serves the purpose..
All in all a hotel i would definitley recommend...Adios!

Well Located
A reasonable hotel, located near Patpong, at walking distance to the ferries, and easy to access the other transports.
The pool is somewhat hidden, but for the kids it was Eden.

Punches above its Weight
The Narai is a good, no pretentions, 3* hotel in Bangkok that has a bit of charm. Its less than 45 min from airport, handy to BTR network (less than 10 mins to Chongnonsee Station) and a15-20 min walk to Tha Oriental Pier to catch the Express Ferry Service which gets the visitor to all the temple attractions of Bangkok very easily. Its in the middle of a major commercial centre of Bangkok ( and just up the road from Patpong).
The main foyer is cavernous , with a restaurant on the mezzanine. The Narai serves up a good breakfast and dinner buffet( frequented by local business people). A large reception room on the ground floor is worth keeping an eye on ,local wedding receptions, high school formals.
The rooms vary considerably between Superior and Deluxe. Pay the extra.Regardlees, the rooms are clean, tidy and well maintained. The housekeeping staff deserve a lot of credit for providing friendly efficient service that is missing from hotels I've a lot more money for.
The narai is used by European tour groups, seeing a bit of bangkok before going home. The pool is best avoided( its not up to much anyway)

OK if you don't mind the walk
Relatively ok if you are not particular about the furnishings. Staff are generally friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast is ok but its the same everyday (I stayed for 4 days and ate the same food every morning).
However, nearest BTS (ChongNansi) is 10-15 mins walk....can be quite tiring after a day's shopping. Path back to hotel at night is dark and lurky.
Not much food options around hotel vicinity and room service menu is pathetic after 10 pm.

average hotel
ermm.. not very near to city area.
need to walk ard 15 min to the nearest train station (i.e. BTS)
but it is near to the patpong night market. so as u are coming back to the hotel late at night, u can consider taking a stroll back instead of taking cab directly back (even thou taking cab is dirt cheap there) ;p

Sleeping on Silom Rd.
A popular hotel for groups, nicely located between the river and the Night Market. We stayed here. The rooms were fine, but not impressive. What I loved best was the breakfast buffet that included Japanese options, such as sushi!
Unique Quality: Great breakfast buffet.

Narai hotel / Silom area
I've never been to Bangkok before, but I have purchased stones from a business in Silom Rd through the mail and since I would like to visit the business when I go to Bangkok, I was thinking of stayin in a hotel on Silom Rd.
Firstly, is Silom an interesting area (for shopping, eating, etc.), or would you suggest staying elsewhere in the city?
Secondly, does anyone have recent feedback on the Narai Hotel in Silom, or suggestions for other mid-range hotels in Bangkok? (I recently read 2 poor reviews on another site about the Narai which have sown some doubts....)
Thanks
RE: Narai hotel / Silom area
I have stayed several times at the Narai dating back to Oct2000.
I have always enjoyed staying here. If as I suspect, "Tripadvisor" was your source of alternative reviews,I would take the demographics and profiles into account. I find it very convenient to Chong Nonsi station for the light rail, and am quite happy walking to the Tha Oriental pier to catch the express ferry service. Its a brisk 20 min walk from the Narai. The hotel is popular with European package tours & the locals. There was always something happening in the function room when I stayed, wedding receptions , high school formals...
The dining area (on the mezzanine)is good and was used as much by the locals as guests.
RE: Narai hotel / Silom area
I agree with the above VT comments regarding the Narai. I have stayed there and did not expect too much because I got a very low room rate which came with buffet breakfast. It's a bit old but very convenient to the Night Market. The buffet breakfast was generous and very popular. There's an outdoor swimming pool which looks its age. I'd stay there again for the price and convenience but if I can afford a better hotel, I would stay somewhere else. I think there's the Siam hotel on the same street which looked newer but not too sure about their rates.
