 | Pan Pacific Bangkok: Excellent Hotel with Great service

Comfortable, good location, good views The Pan Pacific is very comfortable hotel located at the Silom/Sathorn area. It is just 3 minutes from the Sala Daeng Sky Train station, which makes it very convenient to get to the shopping districts of Siam Square or Chatuchak market, or the entertainment streets of Sukhumvit. Just a short walk gets you to the notorious red light district of Patpong, and there are numerous street stalls and shops offering traditional Thai massages, cafes and street food (near Thaniya Plaza-which is just behind the hotel, towards Sala Daeng BTS) Ample toiletries, towels and bottled water (no extra charge) were provided, and there was also a turn-down service provided in the evenings. I was impressed! Other facilities: Coffee Tea making facilities, in-room safe, good sized wardrobe, two bathrobes, bed room slippers, writing desk, large LCD tv (including Pay TV), telephone directory & Yellow pages. Sleeping comfort: The mattress on the bed was too soft. The bed came with 2 hypo-allergenic pillows and 2 very soft pillows (not my favourite!) and had a pillow menu offering more than 8 different varieties of pillows. Good views (my room was on 29th floor) & small but delightful pool (with outdoor Jacuzzi) & a good sized gym (which I did not use but did have a look at). See pics of the pool. Breakfast There was a good variety at breakfast, but the taste was average & the taste was a tad too salty. The rate I paid was a special rate but included only one breakfast and I was not happy with this because I had booked a double room, so I had believed that I was getting two breakfasts. Expensive Internet: It cost a lot-and you were charged around 11.7 baht per minute-either wireless or using a high-speed internet cable. However, the maximum charge was capped at around 670 baht in 24 hours (calculated from first sign-on).
Excellent Service I found the staff of this hotel to be excellent-they were well mannered, attentive and unobtrusive (from the bell hop who greeted me at the entrance on the ground floor, to the attendant at the lift (the main lobby is on the 23rd Floor (see pics of the lobby-taken from a higher floor) & you have to switch lifts to get to the lobby & then to your room), and the wait staff at the Coffee House. “Service 1” that provided my room with additional towels and a change of pillows, and another person who brought me an iron, and an ironing board - were quick to act on my request. Unlike at some other hotels, the staff here all spoke good English. They were unfailingly courteous had a flair for good service. You felt like they were pleased to be of service. Footnote: This hotel is popular with Japanese businessmen. Thaniya Plaza & Soi Thaniya which is a stone's throw away has numerous clubs catering exclusively for Japanese clients.
