Luxurious and Best Hotel

I enjoy the chic contemporary French fare at the Reflexions. The location is great. And it's the most luxurioushotels in Bangkok. It's just only a few minutes from BTS It's recognized as one of the city's premier hotel.

All glass and class

Set on downtown Bangkok’s famous Wireless Road, Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel, is situated in the heart of Bangkok’s diplomatic and shopping quarter. An architectural masterpiece, the hotel is a gleaming glass tower that soars above the city skyline (picture taken from website).

I like staying here because of its great food at Smooth Curry thai restaurant and the lovely spa. It's also close to the Suan Lum Night Bazaar.

Wonderful 5 star service

Arrived in hotel in the middle of the nite and was warmly welcomed by staff. We were shown up to our rooms which includes a huge platter of those wonderful thai fruits and sweets. Staff, from room service to doorman were extremely helpful and catered to our every needs! Very convienently located, 5 mins walking distance to BTS skytrain Ploen Chit station. To take a taxi from airport, ask them to take the highway. You will have to pay the highway fee once you reach the toll area which is around THB 70. Meter fee should be THB 150 + THB 50 which is the airport fare.

Unique Quality: Beautiful pool and if you are into spa, they have in house spa called aspara with thai massage, facial and others.

The Plaza Was First Class At An Excellent Price

This hotel is very convenient, a few blocks from the skytrain. At a little over $100 a night, the amenities, including a beautiful roof top pool, were excellent. You could stay in a less expensive place, but you could also stay at the four seasons or penninsula, much more expensive and not really worth it unless you jus want to waste some cash.

Superb restaurants here, not that we dined in but once during our trip. Unreal breakfast buffet in the am too.

If you like five star, stay here and avoid the more expensive brands that are not worth the extra bucks.

Unique Quality: Pool was terriffic, location wonderful and convenient. Not in the middle of things so it is relatively quiet. Convenient to skytrain.

excellent hotel for all the finer touches

I thought the service and facilities at Plaza Athenee were wonderful and relaxing. They really know how to take care of guests and the details are magnificant - the hotels, the spa, the gym, pool and louge all were great.

The only drawback is that if you book the room via expedia or another website you will NOT be credited with frequent flyer miles and I was very disappointed to learn that upon arrival.

Unique Quality: The views are wonderful - I was on the 22nd floor. Plus, the lounge is very subtle and cozy.

A great place to pamper yourself.

More about Plaza Athenee Bangkok, A Royal Meridien Hotel

Great Hotel - top location

by TripAdvisor Member flokz

We stayed at the Plaza Athenee Bangkok for 4 nights at the beginning of June 2006. We booked a Deluxe room which was very nice furnished and had a great view over Bangkok Skyline. My request to get a room on a high floor was granted without any question.
The bathroom was big and clean as you suspect from LeMeridien.
The health club and especially the pool were awesome. There´s also a nice poolbar where you can relax after a hard day shopping or sightseeing.
Staff was extremly friendly and helpful. We didn´t have any troubles at all everything was done perfect at arrival and check-out.
The hotel is just 2 minutes walk from the next Skytrain station so you don´t have to take a time killing boat trip like at the Peninsula, Hilton or many others at the river. You could even walk to the huge shopping malls. The area can also be considered as safe with not so many sex-tourists and annoying street hawkers.
The only thing is that prices at the restaurants and bar are high above average for Bangkok. So if you want to safe some money take your dinner or your drink at one of the restaurants/bars in the neighborhood.
We would definitely stay again at the Plaza Athenee on our next Bangkok trip!

Beautiful hotel, beautiful people

Absolutely perfect. What a superb hotel. The Thai people are absolutely wonderful. We recommend a club room with club lounge access and check in.

Nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely return.

Rude Staff at Checkin, Rooms Bit Dated

by TripAdvisor Member SamWalker

I am a Gold SPG member so expected to get treated nice upon checkin. Lady who checked me in was very cold and rude. I didn't get upgraded like I should have, even though there were better rooms available.

Did get a cheap rate through my company, and I think the level of service you get depends on how much you pay.

Thought the room was a bit dated and needs a decent renovation.

Noticed poor design and poor quality finishes in alot of areas of the hotel.

Staff also didn't seem as attentive as other quality hotels in Bangkok.

Best hotel we ever stayed in

by TripAdvisor Member twofromOZ

My wife and I spent 8 nights at the Plaza Athenee on the executive floor in July 2006. We travel a lot (in fact we just returned from a week in Washington DC staying at the Marriott), and the Plaza Athenee was the best food and service we have ever experienced anywhere. We give the the Marriott in DC 7/10 and the PA we give 10/10 by comparison.

This was our first trip to BKK and we spent many hours on trip advisor reading reviews and finally chose the PA. We were not disappointed. Hint: get the executive suite package - the afternoon snacks and evening snacks are heavenly! The food in the buffet is the best value and absolutely out of this world. There is something for everyone and more! and the quality is outstanding. The room was very nice and large enough and the bathroom pretty huge for a hotel.

The shopping in BKK is so so - there is a lot of cheap stuff around if that is what you are after. The boutique stuff you can buy in your own country at sale times cheaper. The temples are interesting but we got a bit templed and golded out after a couple of days! We spent a lot of time around the pool (which is like a green oasis and the pool staff are attentive). Wine is expensive though.

All in all this hotel gives brilliant value for money and I have to say it one more time - the food is the best ever. We are going back just for a week to eat at the hotel and chill out around the pool and in the executive lounge!

Hi All.

We will be staying at the Royal Meridien, Plaza Athenee hotel Bangkok in august for a few nights and was wondering what the weather would be like ?

And also are there any nice places to eat and have massages close the this hotel?

thanks to all of you

weather in August is HOT for sure... do have skin protection before you got your skin burnt!

Re: Advice!!!!!!!!!1

August: hot and wet in Bangkok (the weather).

Countless places for food and massage in that part of town.
But right next to the Plaza Athenee hotel are mostly offices and embassies -- not a lot of shops or restaurants.
But if you walk 5-10 minutes toward Ploenchit Road, you'll find plenty of everything.

The nicer hotels in Bangkok provide umbrellas for guests during the rainy season.
Of course, you tip the bellboy who offers the umbrella.

So, in August, you'll be hot and, maybe wet, but you won't be hungry or lacking for massage.

bangkok always hot. last august was not so bad. cooler than right now; april. if you get rain its usually heavy thunderstorm in early evening. your hotel is 5 star. you didnt say if breakfast included., if not you can buy all of a great meal on the street between 7-9 am. just walk towards the skytrain; 5 minutes. these vendors cater to all the office workers going to work; fresh squeezed oj, fresh cut fruit, hot foods, sweets. all sort of goodies. there is a good lunch market and food court that caters to same workers on ploenchit rd. turn left at skytrain, go 5 minutes towards central dept store. you will find genuine thai food for thai customers. you have to try. its all great, and not all spicy, mostly pre-made cuisine, so you see what you get. just point to what looks good. most vendors speak enough english to get by. after lunch go to central dept store. they have huge gourmet supermarket on ground floor. also take away foods. also an upscale food court on 7th floor. as for restaurants; your hotel wont disappoint, as will any 5 star; jw marriott, conrad, intercontinental are all walking distance. but try the local foods i suggested...you can get a good steak or salmon anywhere in the world....but there is nothing like real thai food in thailand.
