We have stayed at the Pratunam Park Hotel it isnt too bad clean & comfortable but we found it was down some pretty dodgy back lanes behind Indra Regent there were groups of men hanging around whenever we went in or out at night this put us off a little but in saying that we were never approached.

Hi -

I think your agent has made a mistake with the name - Pathunam is not an area in Bangkok that I've heard of. Try getting the full address from your agent; most likely it is the Pratunam Park Hotel that you have been booked into, if you can get the full street address you will be able to confirm that.

Cheers,

Jeremy

Ya they made a mistake. It Is Pratunam Park Hotel. Is there any good restaurants and shopping in that area? Thks.

The hotel is not that far from the huge Central World Plaza mall - about 10 minutes walk south from the hotel. Pratunam market (clothing, mainly) is close to the hotel.

Cheers,

Jeremy

Travel Tips for Bangkok

Bangkok Tip

Smiley, relaxed people. Carts full of dry-roasted insects being pushed around the roads at night. A baby elephant being led around the backstreets. My firm efforts to shrug off the attentions of the 'girlfriends for a night' strung along Sukhumvit.

While walking around taking pictures in Wat Mahathat, this temple came into view. It looked so interesting from where we were (and near) that we thought we could just walk to it...NOT. That temple in the distance is the main prang of Wat Ratchaburana...which happens to be my favorite temple in Ayutthaya.

Eating With Chopsticks

by mtcowgirl

While sometimes Thais eat with chopsticks, often they do not. Normally only noodle and soup dishes are eaten with chopsticks.

Western eating utensils were introduced to Thailand by the king in the 1800's so there is a long tradition of eating with the fork. So if you are served a meal and don't receive chopsticks, don't be upset...it's not because the restaurant lacks faith in your ability to master eating with them but rather its tradition to eat with a fork :)

Some universal etiquette rules for using chopsticks are:
1.) Never play drums or otherwise play with chopsticks as it is considered bad mannered to do so.
2.) Do not leave chopsticks standing upright in food such as rice
3.) Standard practice is to balance the chopsticks on a rest or on a dish and keep the ends off the table while in use

Changing the guard at the Grand Palace

by shrimp56

This occured around 10-11am. It's not a big deal really as you'll find people and vendors in front of and behind them. And no one really tells you to get out of the way. It IS charmingly "colonial-tropical" though.

Skatin' it up

by alvis

There are plenty of places to skate in Bangkok if you keep your eyes open. I know of a skate park near Ekkamai which I've never been to but is meant to be great on a Saturday. I would normally go to Queens Park at the Phrom Pong BTS station there are no ramps here but are a few slides etc to play about on. Also plenty more to do in the park from Basketball to Tai Chi.
