D`Ma Pavilion Hotel Bangkok

althoughi it has a small lobby. but it is well lit and cozy with cream-colored marble throughout and delicate chandeliers hanging above the high ceiling.
much much better than the asia hotel. and the hotel rate is almost the same!!!!
and its
about 5 minute-walk to the Pratunam Market
an whole sale market where u can get appreals much cheaper than patpong.
the bad part is that its not near the bts
but the gd news is that they do given free shuttle bus from hotel to BTS station .
the rooms are very clean , room looks NEW.
MOST IMPORENTLY!!!
no black outs, no driping of dirty water and radio switching on by itself. (look at my asia hotel tips and u will know why!!)

Unique Quality: very nice and clean pool.

Nice decent hotel

The travelling agent recommanded this hotel This is a decent & quiet 3 stars hotel. The only noisy and busy time is during breakfast. The only restuarant within the hotel is packed with in-house guests during breakfast time. Guests go for breakfast as early as 7am. Location is a bit out of the way, but not a big problem since there are plenty of taxi around and taxi fare is not expensive. It is within walking distance (5-8 minutes) to Pratunam Market.

Unique Quality: There is a 7-11 store across the hotel which make it very convenience. There are street food sellers near the hotel if you want to try something very local. Chinese medical hall, tailor, massage house, restuarants and fruits sellers can be found along the streets near the hotel as well.

Hotel staffs are friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure stay there.

Lots of places are safe to stay at in Bangkok even in cheaper places than the Ramada. I was in the Sukhumvit Road area just a couple days ago and everything seemed to be pretty normal. Lots of malls on Sukhumvit Road plus the Skytrain is still working in that area starting from the Oh Nut Skytrain station. You can get many hotels without any reservation during low season. If you have already paid for this place I would send them emails and even call from the airport and ask the about current situation.

Back up hotels on Sukhumvit Road that you may want to consider if your hotel says not to come (unlikely if they have your credit card number) are:
Landmark Hotel
Amari Boulevard
Marriott
Sheraton
Ambassador.

Your Ramada Hotel may suggest alternative hotels for you too.

In this area, from Asok Skytrain stop to just after the Nana Skytrain stop, you have hotels in all price ranges. A hotel that is 600 baht will still have air, hot water, private toilet, cable TV and maid service. Ibis Hotel is not too bad and you can walk to many places. All of the above Sukhumvit Road suggestions have street vendors, malls, restaurants, nightlife, travel agencies for tours and small shops you can walk to. You can use the Skytrain to take you to other areas to shop at like Lotus Tesco and places in between.

Keep in mind that the press does sensationalize these political protests quite a bit. Tourists are not the targets of any demonstrations. If a tourist is stupid enough to actually put himself right in the middle of these demonstrations on purpose then he may end up as "collateral damage" by chance.

If your original Ramada Hotel is providing transportation they will know the current status of your stay. There are lots and lots of malls and other sorts of shopping that are not affected by any demonstrations.

Thai Visa Forum has up to date info on protest situation in Bangkok:

Good luck.

Up to you.
