Best location to stay in Bangkok

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 25, 2015

I fell in love with this hotel, it is located in an area where the Night Market can be accessed, the different shops and food eateries. Also the breakfast area and dinner area is beautiful, their breakfast buffet is really good and the view from the outside resturant inspires you to want to get up early to watch the harbor as you sip on coffee and dine on American and Thai breakfast cusine.

Also this hotel is so accomadating as location and comfort, you will only feel sad when you have to go.
I always felt safe and there is a boat on the back of the hotel to take you across, a tuk tuk ready to take you where you want, and again everything is close by to enjoy.

Unique Quality: 1) You feel safe and there is so much open transportation available for free and for pennies
2) The plethora of resturants and shops are a plenty you don't want to shop anywhere else
3) The most amazing night market near by you need to bring an empty suitcase with all the deals
4) The hotel's view is of the harbor and pool
5) Great wi-fi and staff

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 6, 2014

I have visited this hotel almost every year for a little more than 30 years. Originally it was a 4-star hotel, but it was rebuilt and renovated some years ago, and thereafter the hotel has called itself a 5 star hotel. But in my opinion, the conversion was only a partial success. Its charming Thai decor disappeared and was replaced by an average international hotel style. And even worse, to make room for both shower and bath tub in the toilet room, the ordinary room's wash basin was moved into the living room. So now you stand there spraying to all sides. Not a good solution, since the ordinary rooms are relatively small.
The hotel is located a little out of the way in a not very inspiring area. You have to drive a rather long distance on Charoenkrung Road, which is quite narrow and always very busy and crowded. Still, it is possible to reach quickly and easily into the city center (Silom area). The hotel is charmingly located by the Chao Phraya River and provides a free shuttle boat service to the Taksin Bridge with The Sky Train which takes you conveniently out in most of the city.
The hotel has a nice large swimming pool and a lovely breakfast restaurant overlooking the river where you can sit both indoor and outside. Additionally the service and facilities are as expected. All in all you get good value for your money.

Not centrally located but yet centrally located.

I have visited this hotel nearly every year for the last 30 years. Originally it was a 4 star hotel, but was rebuilt and renovated some years ago and after this the hotel rates itself as a 5 star hotel. However the refurbishment was in my opinion only a partial success. The original charming Thai decoration was changed and became a fairly anonymous international hotel style. Worse was, that the ordinary rooms had the wash basin moved into the living area itself in order to accommodate both shower and bathtub in the toilet room.
The hotel is located in a fairly remote and uninspiring area of Bangkok with access from Charoenkrung Road, which is a narrow and very busy street that leads to long transport times to and from the city center (Silom area). But the hotel has a charming location by the Chao Praya River and operates a free suttle boat service with half-hourly service to the Taksin Bridge and the Sky Train which conveniently brings you all over Bangkok. The boat trip taking less than 15 minutes is an experience in itself. This is the reason why I continue to choose this hotel. It also has a large swimming pool and a nice breakfast restaurant overlooking the Chao Praya River. The service and facilities are as may be expected in a large 4/5 star international hotel. All in all you get good value for your money.

Great Hotel on the river

This is a top class Hotel with a mid range price. The staff were very friendly and always helpful (as is the normal practice for all Thais) Rooms are large (AUD$133.00 per room per night). The bathroom was also large with plenty of room to hang washing. Breakfast (included) has everything you could wish for and you have great views of the river at the same time. Like all good hotels, drink prices are "over the top" but food prices are reasonable.

We would be very happy to stay here again and would recommend it to all our friends

Unique Quality: The room we had has great views of the pool and the river. The hotel has a great free shuttle boat, with a Thai shaped roof which leaves the jetty at the Hotel every half hour for a trip to the Sky Rail station which will get you to mid town in 10 - 15 minutes.

Hotel at the Chao Phraya

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

The Menam Riverside is quite centrally located, easily accessible from the airport because of the new express way and not far from the shopping centers on Silom Road. It is directly at the river and there is transportation by the river to the Grand Palace and Wat Arun. You can also arrange for a khlong tour. The rooms are spacious and most offer a great view of the city.

Unique Quality: There is a really nice pool with a snack bar and palm trees. You can nearly forget that you are in a big city as it is very quiet. The service is friendly and the breakfast is good. Several restaurants offer thai, chinese, western and japanese cuisine, directly at the river there is a seafood BBQ with romantic views over the river.

The Menam Hotel

I think i remember having paid 700 Baht per Person in a double.

Unique Quality: I guess it´s not for travellers on a shoestring, but still i believe compared to european standards it´s high quality for just little money. Clean rooms and bathrooms with a/c, a pool, and very handy a taxi shuttle boat to the River city and elsewhere in town.

Directions: New Road. Right at the Chao Praya south of Chinatown.
