    SO CLOSE TO MBK

    by

I found this little hotel on the net and booked it because it was very reasonably priced and close to MBK shopping centre and the sky train.
It's in a small lane off Rama 1 Rd. Rooms were quiet, you would not have known how busy the main road was.

It was basic but more than enough for our needs for a couple of nights. We were only there long enough to sleep!
I forgot to ask for a double bed so we ended up with twin beds. Beds are firm but I think most of the beds in Thailand are!!

There is a swimming pool but we didn't have time to use it.

Breakfast was included in the price. Nothing to rave about, eggs toast and tea or coffee.

We didn't have an evening meal there but it was always very busy at night.

Most expensive budget hotel but worth the price

    by

There is lots of good shopping nearby at Siam-Discovery Center and Ma Boon Krong (MBK) Shopping Center, with a night market open nearby on the weekends. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is very friendly.

A triple sharing room, without TV or safebox cost us 1170 baht a night. It was clean and extremely spacious (we actually snuck in a friend who slept on the floor).

The service was very comparable to that of the more established commercial hotels. Within 2 minutes of calling Housekeeping, they knocked on the door with fresh, warm towels.

They provide the ubiquitous complimentary 2 glass bottles of mineral water.

There was a selection of different sets for breakfast, playing with the combination of fruit, cereal, porridge, toast, eggs, coffee, tea or juice. We chose the toast with egg and juice and a fruit dessert.

Unique Quality: When we were there, they were undergoing interior re-decorating and painting. From what we could see, they're turning the 2nd and 3rd floors into a very similar, bright coloured, modern zen-ish look as the first floor.

It's the only budget hotel on the Soi Kasemson 1 stretch to have a pool. I was impressed that the pool was clean. However, while the foliage and landscaping TO the pool was very luscious and pretty, the area around the pool was clean but sparse. I rated it as practical and sufficient but definitely not spa-like. Then again, this *is* a budget hotel, not Siam City Hotel.

The service staff were very friendly and they have a very secure baggage room. We checked out but was allowed to leave our luggage in the store. The doorman gave us a ticket for our luggage so that we could verify and retrieve it later, hassle-free.

Only 2 minutes stroll away from MBK and the National Stadium BTS, it made it super easy to move around Bangkok.

Directions: Located on a small street near the Jim Thompson House and just opposite the National Stadium.

It just means that there are a few embassies in the area. The location of the hotel is just across the road from the MBK mall - very convenient for shopping.

Cheers,

Jeremy
