Thailand is easy to do on yoyr own, millions of tourists both men and women do it this way all the time.

In Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Phuket it is simple to sign up for tours. For tours just find the nearest travel agency to your hotel and check out their list of tours. Tour company will pick you up at your hotel and return you there at the end of the trip. These tours are with other tourists on 10 passenger vans, many of them are traveling alone.

Taxi Stand at the Airport

by imstress

When you arrive at the airport, walk right outside of the arrival area.

You will see many people carrying signs to pick up guest with transfer arranged.

Some will approach you to take their Limo service which cost 400THB.

Just avoid them and walk out of the airport and turn right and you will see the offical taxi booth (100m away).

Join the queue and tell the counter staff where u are heading to. They will assign you to a driver.

Be sure to tell the driver your destination and ask him to turn on the meter. It should start from 35THB. Ask him to take the expressway.

You have to pay a 40THB + 20THB for the 2 tolls. An additional 50THB will be charged for trip departing from the airport.

Taxi fare to town will cost 150-200 THB with smooth traffic on the expressway.

Spanning the Chao Phraya River

by syllybabe

We were tired and hungry and hot and just wanted to go back home! All day we had been walking in the heat and waiting for one of our friends negotiating for a buddha statue in Chatuchak (why I hate travelling with a big group). We had walked to temples that were not in our original agenda and we had missed lunch! That's what p*ssed me off the most, I think. No one should go hungry in Bangkok! There's food everywhere!
But of course it's my fault that when finally the others gave in to their hunger and they opted for food from a sidewalk vendor, I walked ahead to the pier to sulk (Hey! It's my trip, too.).
While waiting for our longtail boat I sat there fuming for a few mins. but how can you be angry for long when you have a flowing river in front of you?
Nah...I just picked up my camera and started shooting. I'll make up for lunch with dinner :-)

Stray Dogs

by stmlnyc

Spend any time in Bangkok and you're bound to notice stray dogs just roaming the streets. They're everywhere you go. I particularly remember some just lying down in the middle of the sidewalk with pedestrians walking around them and stray dogs (in the picture) resting while you eat at an outdoor eatery.

Some of the dogs seem to be in awfully bad shape. Luckily, most dogs ignore people and are generally harmless.

Thai Language is difficult.

by machomikemd

The Thai language is comprised of 44 consonants, 32 vowels and five tones in Thai pronunciation, along with a script that has Indian origins. The Thai language, belonging to the Tai family, is the main language in Thailand although there are several regional dialects as well. Other languages spoken in Thailand are Chinese, Lao, Malay and Mon-Khmer, while English use is becoming more prevalent in government and commerce. English is also being taught as a second language in secondary school and universities, which enables the English speaking visitor in Thailand to have little trouble conversing

Some Basic Thai Phrases:

Yes - Chái
No - Mâi chái
Thank you - Khàp khun
No, thank you - Mâi ao khàp khun
Hello - Sawàt dii
Excuse me - Khãw thôht
