River View Guest House

This is a no-frills cheap hotel, not well decorated, and difficult to find. But the restaurant on the eighth floor is really nice to just enjoy the breeze, brew and view. They have inexpensive good food, as well.

Most taxi drivers don't even know where this soi is and we finally got there after asking a couple of people.

You have to walk past mountains of engine parts on the sides of the street and really believe that you're going the right way.

Now that I know the location of the place, I definitely would stay there again.

Unique Quality: inexpensive, good food and great view of the river for really cheap.

If you go to River City Shopping Center and call them from there, they will pick you up.

They only take cash or Amex but will take Visa and MC with 5% surcharge.

The River View Guest House is on the apex of the Chaophya River which is the main waterway in Bangkok. The position allows for 180 degree views of the river and city. Especially good at sunset!!

The immediate surroundings are not all together beautiful. But very real. The narrow streets around this guesthouse are a maze of tracks that lead to automotive workshops, temples, food stores and interconnecting ferry wharfs.

Unique Quality: No facilities really. Although there is a great restaurant on the 8th floor with balconeys and a view to stare at for hours.
The guesthouse offers a laundry service and they do have a travel/tour agent in the foyer who can offer the usual Bangkok tours.

Air conditioned rooms with a view were about 600BAHT per night.
I took a small room with a fan and no view for 330 baht per night

Very inexpensive alternative with decent location.
The area isnt so nice. I think that all the car repair shops and spare part shops are in the neighbourhood.
Very hard for taxi drivers to find.

Unique Quality: Roof terrace with awesome views to river. Few air con rooms, but fan rooms has balcony with river view.

Double fan room for 450bahts/night.

Directions: When yoy smell the grease, oil and petrol, you know you are approaching the place....
