    Very very nice

Everything we could ask for, an upperclass hotel with not the same expense as the Oriental or the pennisula, nicer than the Shangri-La too.

Unique Quality: Make sure to Have the first frozen drink on the menu in the lobby bar, it is huge about 2 feet tall.

  • most luxurious hotel experience

On arrival to the Tower I was escorted upstairs, offered a cold fresh squeezed orange juice and sumarily escorted to my room, overlooking the Chow-Pray!
My "Buttler " asked me if I needed help unpacking....when I told him I did not know...he offered to press my jacket...on the spot....and shinned my shoes....I figured it was time to tip the gentleman...he was offended and observed that it was his job.

I had a business meeting and my contact was late....the butler suggested that I go poolside and wait for him there When my contact arrived they informed me and put him in the lounge with some cold orange juice.....
The very best part, and this is worth the trip to Bangkok is the 6AM trip to Lumpini Park. Thousands of Thais doing Tai Chi, Ball room dancing, aerobics, running etc. Just join in ...they are delightfully welcoming.
Then as you get back in your van, a cold compress and the International Herald Tribune. Breakfast and cocktails in the evening included;....a dream

Unique Quality: Great pool, shopping center next door , you dont even have to go outdoors....great antique shops in the center.
Long Boat stopping point just below hotel which is a great trip and a great bargain...just ask them for a tour of the Chow Prai River....
There is a buffet in the evening in the terrace. All the goodies that we westerners cant pick up on the street there, for the tasting....Great pool....

Directions: On the Chow Prai River next the the Oriental.

  • An oasis in the heat of the city

A great location on the banks of the Chao Praya river at which all rooms have a view of the river. The river bus service stops right next door and it is a quick ride to the skytrain stop Saphan Taksin.

With many of the big hotel chains it is always worth joining their loyalty scheme. Dependent upon the amount of loyalty you have managed to build up the benefits can be huge.
Thanks to my membership I managed to obtain a rate of $75 per night, get an upgrade to a junior suite, and access to the club level lounge on the 26th floor.

Beautiful hotel on the Chao Phraya river

All the rooms at this hotel offer a view of the Chao Phraya river. The rooms were large and there are plenty of restaurants within the hotel. There are also several outdoor pools.

Food was great and staff were very helpful.

    An Oasis in the City

To approach the hotel is a bit of a worry, it is down a tiny back street, but once you get to the entrance you are rest assured that it is a top quality place. With a choice of 6 restaurants in the hotel you are never stuck for choice. From Italian to the typical Thai. The breakfast area overlooks Chao Phraya River and also the hotel pool. The staff are always extremely courteous and were always on hand for anything if needed.

Unique Quality: With the pool bar at the second pool you were able to mellow out in the afternoon and relax before going to one of the many restaurants. One amazing experience there is the Thailand Tonight restaurant which is outside. It has a buffet menu and every night thay have a traditional Thai dance performance. A great way to top off a stay in Bangkok.

Royal Orchid Sheraton, Bangkok

by mjx

Hi there! We are planning a trip to Bangkok for the Christmas Holidays and our travel agent booked us in the Royal Orchid Sheraton. We've been reading some mixed reviews about the place (location, rooms, etc...). Is it a good place to stay or should we look for another place? Thanks y'all.

I have not stayed there but have stayed at the Four Seasons. It is very nice. I know someone who stays there when they go there for business. I dont know how much you are plannig to spend, but it is worht it. It has i think four or five different kind of places to eat there. When i was there about 3 months ago the Royal family was eating the for a benifit. Check it out.

HI there,
Used to Stay at Royal Orchid Sheraton. It's very nice 4-5 star hotel( and i hope the refurbishing has been finished, u should check on that coz it might be noisy) U will get the River View and it's quite beautiful at night.. On the other side of the river ( u can go there taking a boat from in front of the hotel, it cost u a few baht) there is a flea market and outdoor eating place ( if u don't mind the local food) There is also a dinner cruise organised by the hotel. I think it's less than 1000 baht ( 40 baht - a dollar) just few step from the hotel is Royal RIver Arcade where u can shop for antiques, handicrafts and there are some convenient stores there as well
In terms of the location, u might have to take taxi to go to places as it's not connected to BTS. There are some air con buses ( such as No 36, if i am not wrong) from in front of the hotel that u can go to Siam Square Sky train/Under ground interchange
If u need any more info, feel free to contact me at

hope this helps,

Thanks Amp Amp! The info is a real help. I'll make sure to check if the hotel is done with it's construction. A traveler's review from September '04 ( said they were still building. The guest complained about the construction noise and got moved to a higher floor. Let's see what happens. Thanks again!

Over and out,
