This hotel is a great value. Its a 3 star property but more like a 4 star. The Royal Princess has 5 restaurants (Italian, Japanese, Chinese, International and Thai) and a variety of rooms on 6 floors. The Rooms are spacious and guests are provided with robes and slippers, a complimentary basket of fresh fruit and bottle of water. There is also a business center, small fitness room and pool.
Unique Quality: One of the best qualities is the level of service. Excellence. In addition to the usual amenities, there is also a concierge and a tour desk to book site-seeing tours.

Royal Princess - Lam Luang
One of five Royal Princess hotels in Bangkok, and the forerunners of the excellent Dusit Thani chain of (Thai-owned) hotels, the Royal Princess is a well-located hotel, although it is comparatively far from the other hotel areas. It is close to the end of the expressway so easily accessible to and from the airport, but also close to the old city.
The hotel has a selection of restaurants, including Italian and Japanese, but a rather miserable lobby bar.
The internet connection is surprisingly expensive for Bangkok.
The rooms are large but have seen better days: they are a bit bland for the 21st Century, and I suspect many date back to 1989 when this hotel reopened after a major overhaul. I like the Dusit Thani chain, but probably would choose a different hotel next time.

Central yet quiet
Being the only hotel in Larn Luang Road was just one of the advantages of staying at the Royal Princess Hotel. Once you said both "Lan Luang" and "Hotel" any taxi driver no matter how poor their English knew where to take you.
But there are many more reasons to give this hotel a go. Walking distance to the Golden Mount and Khao Sahn road, as well as near to a fresh fruit and vegetable market, the Royal Princess was very handy to everything, yet quiet enough that you didn't feel in the centre of a maelstrom of lights and noise.
Unique Quality: We ate dinner at the Chinese restaurant and the Italian restaurant and enjoyed both greatly. We didnt eat at the Japanese one. Breakfast is included in the room price and was a buffet that included both some Thai dishes as well as pastries and traditional european hot breakfast choices.
Room service was prompt and of good quality, available 24 hours a day. The night owl menu dishes cost about $3 each.
The swimming pool was pleasant, though I was disappointed that it closed relatively early in the evening (8pm).
Service was excellent and all the staff were both friendly and helpful. There are hotel "limousines" which are airconditioned and clean, but a fair amount more expensive than a taxi. Definitely worth using sometimes for simplicity's sake.
The beds were unbelievably firm, with spare pillows in the cupboard. Complimentary water was replaced every day, and there was apparently complimentary shoe cleaning. The laundry service was good, and although it would have no doubt been cheaper somewhere else, was handy and quite quick.
There is a tailor, general shop and jewellers in the building as well, and a business centre and conference facilities.

Around the area of the hotel, you could find tree lined boulevards, centuries old canals and the city's most prominent and popular places of interest such as the Grand Palace, Temple of Emerald Buddha and Jim Thompson's House. The hotel is within walking distance to various markets, one of them is the Chinatown, a bustling area with its side lined with streets vendors and various type of goods 170 nice furnished guest rooms provide every comfort and amenities. A modern business center, meeting rooms, a shady, secluded pool and 4 restaurants

Accomodation and Airport Transportation
by dentisto
We will be arriving in Bangkok around midnight. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced hotel centrally located in Bangkok (we need to get Visas for Burma) that provides transportation from the airport? Also, is there a hotel booking service at the airport?

Asia Hotel is very reasonable, loads of facilities and is in a good location, there is a skytrain stop reight by it.
The Royal Princess Larn Luang is a bit pricier but is lovely and is located ion the older part of Bangkok, very convenient for historic attractions and the area has loads of character too.
Call the hotels direct for a good discounted price. I think I only paid about £25-30 for a double 3 years ago at the Royal Princess. Should be about the same price I would imagine.
Both hotels can arrange travel from the airport.
