Little Cosy Place
Our family of 4 ( 3 & 7 years old gals ) stayed in Samran for 7 days as suggested in this forum during 1st week of July 2009.
As the rate is only 1000 bht then ( includ. breakfast for 2 ) , you can't have higher expectations.
IMO, the rooms are clean, the corridors are wide enough, have bathtub and the hotel guests are not noisy and annoying like staying in Skhumvit area.
Good for kids as we don't see much of the working gals around as well.
We took cabs most of the time though the BTS station is only 7 mins. walk away.
There is a 7 /11 store just 3 mins walk beside hotel .
Moreover, on the way to BTS staion, there's a Travel agency named Info Travel and we booked 2 tours for Dream World and Safari World. Trust me , the price is way lesser than the tour operators in Every hotels. :)
If you are keen into seafood or Noodles, there r lots of street vendors on the road at night.
I had a mini seafood hot pot with 150 bht & Steamed oyster with 100 bht.
To sum up, we got extra money to spend more staying in this hotel , as we change our first option of staying in a Hotel with 1850 bht. I'll definitely stay again in my next trip in Dec too.
Unique Quality: Almost every Taxi drivers aware of SAMRAN Hotel.

Bangkok's Budget Hotel
Samran Place is ok hotel to stay. It is cheap, clean & safe. Service is ok although I find the old lady at the reception rude & don't know how to handle their guests. Not so much facility here just a restaurant serving the same breakfast each day. It is within walking distance to MBK & Pratunam about 10 mins or more. There are more hotels in the Pratunam area convenient for cheap shopping.
This hotel doesn't have a convenient location.

Samran Place Hotel
I book the hotel through agoda with USD185 for 5 nights for 2 person (with my wife) which I think its a good deal.
The hotel location is just 5 mins walk to the Rajchathewi BTS skytrain station and 15 mins walk to MBK.
The room is clean and provided with towers, soap, shampoo and etc. Toothbrush and paste not included, you need to bring there your own or can just buy the new one from 7/11 which is just beside the BTS station.
TV and fridge are available.
There is a construction going on beside the hotel but very quite, if you dont open the curtain, you will totally unaware that there is construction going on beside. I often come back to hotel afternoon for a nap and no sound was heard.
The staff is very friendly and they speak english well and they are very helpful. My bed was slanting and I found it was fixed after my shopping trip outside. Good service with low price.
Breakfast was included and its not buffet style, you order based on the menu given. Tried the american bf, fried rice and fired noodle, all are very nice.
I took a taxi from Airport cost me 400B. The taxi driver is not honest, we agree to go on meter at airport and after took on, he wanted 400B and threaten to leave us at the middle of highway if we want to use meter. What a bad taxi driver. Drive at 130km/h under rain with 1 leg on the seat (driving manual transmission) and 1 hand holding handphone. I am so happy when I arrive to the hotel safely.
However, the taxi driver we took from hotel to airport is very honest and just follow the meter plus the highway toll, total cost only 285B and I gave him 300B with balance as tips. Driving also safer compare to the first one. Saw an accident near the airport, the taxi bang on a van and the entire taxi car engine was dropped off, not sure is there any casualties or not. Hope they are safe.
Unique Quality: Small and low cost hotel, but without satisfying the cleanliness and service. Good hotel.

SAMRAN PLACE
“Samran”, a THAI word, refer to the happiness and enjoyment.
A perfect city accommodation, located in the center of the Bangkok, close to
business centers, shopping areas, food street and Thai Attraction.
Unique Quality: From Ratchathewi BTS station exit 3 (on the way to the Samran Hotel), there's many seafood restaurant at night and food street. Behind the hotel, there's a thai massage parlor with the reasonable prices.

Excellent hotel
Absolutely clean and spacious. Althought there's a construction site next door but no noise came from it even in the afternoon. Very friendly staff who kindly advised us that we can put our luggage with them free-of-charge when they knew we wanted to book a room for half a day. Breakfast is not buffet style -- very much to my liking.
Would definitely stay there again.
In addition, there's a whole row of seafood stalls just beside the hotel. Cheap n good. Had dinner there on all 3 nights.
Unique Quality: Has a bathtub which doesn't seem a common feature in other 3-star hotels. Friendly staff.

Cheap and Good
I'm quite surprised that at a rate of 28 USD for a twin sharing, what you will get is a clean and spacious room with a bath tub. Location wise, It's about 8 minutes walk to the nearest BTS and near to MBK shopping centre and Platinum fashion mall. Breakfast has nothing to shout about (Non buffet). The cheapness of the stay is offset by the lack of toothbrush, toothpaste, hair dryer, facial wash, body foam. On the whole, I would recommend this place.

my 1st choice hotel in bangkok
i like samran place hotel coz of the ff reasons: 1) sooooo clean bathroom 2) cozy resto yet well kept and organized 3)breakfast included in room rate has 6 choices to choose from 4)less than 20usd/night for 2 persons thru asiarooms.com 5) 5 minutes walk to mrt station

great for travellers on a budget!
Just came back from bbk last week. Stayed at Samran Place for 5D4N. The staff there are really helpful, and very friendly. We were there around 10am, and they gave us a room for check in despite that we were early. Rooms are clean and neat. Spacious enough for 3 single beds ( there were 3 of us in a room). Rooms are cleaned up and new towels given every day. Breakfast starts at 630am, and ends PROMPTLY at 10am. My advise would be to go down early for breakfast because it can get crowded sometimes. Breakfast is alright, ala carte style, with 5 different types to choose from (Asian, western etc). Location is alright as taxis are easy to get, and within walking distance to the BTR. There's a A&W just 5 mins away from the hotel! From the hotel (back facing the hotel) turn right and walk a few mins away ( after passing by all the cafes with KTVs) would be a really good streetside stall to eat from! It is open only during the night and easily recognizable because it is really crowded during evening times.
Another advise would be pls grab a few of the hotel namecards from the reception because taxi drivers cant seem to understand when we said "Samran Place".
Two bad points would be my room was facing a construction site. Really really near, so we had to close our curtains all the time because as early as 6am, there would be people working on the site, and they can see the room clearly. Another would be we found a small cockroach in the room on one night.
HOWEVER, in all, i would still give my thumbs up and recommend Samran Place. It is a good hotel to choose if you are on a budget and is looking for a clean and comfortable room to rest in after a day of madness shopping. (:

It's located near Asia Hotel, BTS station (Rachathewi), food store, bus station, massage shop and a big shopping mall (MBK). I staying in a Deluxe Room, the room is spacious and clean. No other facilities in this hotel (except internet). Breakfast provided but not much of choices. For those budgetted traveller, i will recommend stay in this hotel.

It is near. In fact, you can cross the bridge to the opposite side of the road to take a public bus (can't rem the bus number though). Alternatively, you can walk to Ratchathewi BTS and board the train (2 stops) to National Stadium and alight. MBK is located just next to the station.
If you are walking to Samran place, you will walk past a tailor shop. The distance between Samran and the tailor shop is just about 50-100m away.
