CLEAN and QUIET and REASONABLE

Nice small hotel on a quiet street. It was extremely clean! Quality for the price was great! Didn't expect it to be so clean for $50. I had a a large two room suite. Felt more like an apartment! And breakfast was included. Bus line was quite close but I opted for taxis. Pool area on top floor was all mine. Nobody around. I felt like a King!!! Staff super friendly! Didn't have a car but there is a carport with security guard at night. Felt very safe here. The hotel is on a dead end street so traffic is not an issue. Really felt at home at this hotel.

Entertainment/Bangkok

Hello,
can anybody give some comments to either Siam Niramit or Aksratheatre as I did try to sent mail but did not get any reply.

Thanks!!!

Most Thai businesses are terrible when it comes to responding to email.

"Thai Cultural Shows" usually bore me to tears, but I really enjoyed Siam Niramit. It's quite a production.

The pre-show buffet is nothing exceptional. If you can save money without it, do so.

Show up early to visit the surrounding grounds.

Travel Tips for Bangkok

Traffic jam everywhere !

by dragontml

I have heard people talking about traffic in Bangkok and this time I got to see for myself. It's really bad !

Not as bad in KL city so I guess people in KL should be thankful ! We were in a taxi after 8pm (suppose to be off peak hour) and still there was a jam. Probably due to the rain. We were heading for dinner at the Water Front restaurant. The taxi man told us it would take about 45 minutes and yes, we still went !
It was a 12km taxi ride in 52 minutes and we paid 155 Baht !

River Cruise - East Asiatic Company Buidling.

Just next to the Oriental Hotel is the East East Trading Asiatic Cmpany building. The building has inscribed date of 1901 and flies a Dutch flag over it. Beyond the building is the Assumption Church.,...built in 1822. You wil lsee this if you walk from the main street to wards the Oriental Hotel.

Bangkok Tip

being trapped at Wat Arun in a tiny alcove with a monk and a chinese american girl as a group of Southern Indian actors and crew filmed yet another Bollywood hit...! Then sitting around with the actress and talking about her complicated relationship with... a MEMORABLE afternoon indeed!!

Bargaining is quite simply a way of life in Thailand. The sooner you get used to it, the more baht you'll save. It is difficult to provide strict guidelines on how low a seller may be willing to go down from his original quoted price, as all are different, but midway is a good starting point. Always smile, and be prepared to purchase the item if you agree a price. Also, how ever much you want the item, be prepared to walk away, if the seller realises you are willing to stand your ground, he might call you back and cave in.

Forgo the shorts and sandals...

by thetravelguy

Bangkok is not the cleanest city and with puddles of water on street and sidewalk surfaces, you'll end up with very foul smelling feet before you know it. Trust me on this - forget the open air sandals and shorts. There's a reason most local end up wearing pants and shoes.
