My Worst Nightmare

Absolutely Horrifying

The bedding looks clean...BUT, there were huge ticks! Dead baby roaches and... ok, enough said. All i asked for was a clean bed, a warm shower & a roof over my head. The only criteria I had was a clean bed... sigh!

We meant to stay for 6 nights but we checked out on the first.

Khao San Accommodation

Sawasdee is a chain of hotels throughout Bangkok. This one is situated at the end of Khao San Rd, but about 30-40 meters from the end. This provides you with some shielding from the noise of Khao San, but still allows you to have the Khao San pricing. At about 400 Baht for a double with A/C and TV, you really can't complain. In the lobby is an aggravating clothes tailor that will ask you to buy a suit EVERY time you go to your room, but he's harmless. There is also a travel agent and internet service there. I booked my tour into Cambodia from here. Not a bad deal.

Unique Quality: Decent cheap rooms
Close to the action of Khao San
Airport bus stops directly in front
Tour buses start from here
Restaurant / cool bar in front

I paid 450 Baht for a single.

Unique Quality: A bit more expensive than hostels in the area, this place is super clean and has the best air conditioning money can buy. A must for this hot city.

Bangkok - Sawasdee Khaosan Inn

by Kitang about Sawasdee Khaosan Inn

We didn't stay here, but checked it out one night as we were walking around Khao San Rd. It looked pretty decent, but for the prices (breakfast not included), it didn't look worth it, unless you want to stay in the Khao San area. The Khao San area is fun, but there were too many foreigners there for my taste - I'd rather be in a place that's more "authentic Thailand".

If you want to hang out with foreigners and stay in an impersonal, hotel-like place, this might be a good place for you. If you want friendly, personable staff and real "character" in your guesthouse, go to Suk 11 (check out my review on it). It might be kinda noisy staying here since you're in the Khao San area, but don't take my word for it because I didn't stay here.

Cheap Express Airport Bus

by YaaDong

The airport bus goes from Suvarnabhumi on 4 seperate routes into the main tourist areas of central Bangkok.(At 150B a person )
Route AE-1 goes on the expressway from Suvarnabhumi to Silom road. You can connect to the Skytrain or subway from Silom.
Route AE-2 goes on the expressway to Banglamphu. This is the one to get on for Khao San road.
Route AE-3 goes to the Nana (soi 3-4) part of Sukhumvit road.
Route AE-4 goes from Suvarnabhumi to Hua Lamphong, Bangkok's main train station.

You can get the Express Airport bus near Khaosan Road in front of Sawasdee Khaosan Inn (18 Chakapong Rd) for only "130 baht".The airport buses run from approximately 5am to midnight and the trip takes 45 mins

Hotel advice in Bangkok?

by ramayer1

Hi all, visiting Thailand for the first time in a few weeks and want to book a hotel in Bangkok before we arrive so we can acclimatize and have a few comfortable nights before heading up north and down to the islands.
I have come across these hotels that look to be in our budget and in a decent location, can anyone who knows these hotels give us some advice/review on them? or recommend other hotels in Bangkok?

Mango Lagoon Place
Sawadee Bangkok Inn
Sawasdee Khaosan Inn

Thanks!

My preference is a hotel that is near the Skytrain so you can use that rapid transit system. No Skytrain in the Khao San Road area.

If you are in the hostel budget range check out the Suk 11 Hostel on Sukhumvit Soi 11. This is near the Nana Skytrain. http://www.suk11.com/

If you are traveling with your wife - not a girlfriend - you can look at this place. Atlanta Hotel, old style hotel, good location - has a policy of not admitting "unmarried" couples! http://www.theatlantahotelbangkok.com/directions.php
