Locating vegan restaurants in Bangkok

by geminimoai

Does anyone know of any vegan restaurants near these Ayutthaya or the Huamark Ibis Hotel (5 Soi Ramkamhaeng 15, Ramkamhaeng Road)?

I'm having a hard time locating these vegan restaurants on a map. If someone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

I know you can find Vegetarian Restaurants in the Sukhumvit Road area. Also you often find food courts with a section serving vegetarian only foods in malls.

Here is another link you can look over.

When you are at your hotel ask your desk clerk to write directions in Thai for you to give to your taxi driver or explain the nearest place to visit. My preference is for a hotel close to the Skytrain route. When you take a meter taxi only pay the meter fare. Meter starts at 35 baht. Meter taxis are cheaper than tuk-tuks. When you bargain a ride you pay more.

Good luck.

I would be not worry for [vegetarian or not] restaurants in Bangkok.
surely most of them are not reachable on net.
imho one of the last problem to worry about in Thailand is food.

The weather is usually very hot, but you can't wear shorts in a temple. So, bring along a few pairs of zip off pants. You can wear them as shorts outside, and just zip on the legs when you enter a temple.

Stand Up for National Anthem

by Arjaree

At 8am and 6pm, it's time for national anthem. In public, around these specific time, dont get freaked out when you see people stop walking ll of the sudden and stand still. The song you hear is our national anthem. It's our custom to pay respect to the country, to the royal family, to the past, through this song. We wont call you names or anything if you keep on walking. It would be nice though if you do the same.

Crime / Fire Scenes for the Newspapers

by Bangkokjoe

Now look; I doubt this is going to happen when you get here, but it is sort of a custom thing in Bangkok (come to think of it... all of Thailand, I suppose). We do enjoy a good scene of a crime or a cracking good fire in the press. Pictures the better. The arrival of a press photographer is likely to hold up any crime investigation or the dampening of flames until some decent piccies have been gotten by Somchai David Bailey Reporteraraporn.

Here is a case in point, in the Bangkok Post, Tuesday last. A fire at a gas plant in the South of Thailand. Note the fire crew front left, looking all dashing and debonair. Even a mate without the fire kit getting in on the show. Very cool ! Note also in the background the flames licking up full tilt around two full gas tanks. Even better! Wooohooo. "This is sanuk" And no need to worry until the press have their pics.

More tragically comical was one instance last year where one of Bangkok's Finest rolled up to an office where there was a letter bomb scare. Guess what... we had "the before photo" (copper at desk looking intrigued and macho) and "the after photo". The "after the press guys asked the copper to open the envelope" photo that is. Which he did. Yup; we got the copper flat out on the floor in exploded office debris photo as well. Barmy. Totally barmy.

For the goriest press pics of bodies splattered over drunk driving wrecks, drug dealers post getting shot, and other gruesome stuff check out the local "Thai Rath" newspaper. It won't matter that you can't read the words, the pics are quite often amazing. Time your trip right and you could buy a copy as a rather bizarre momento mori souvenir. And there is a decent book out called "The Cars That Ate Bangkok" - a reportage of car related press pics and stories. Superb. Try Bookazine book stalls, or Asia Books.
