Great Location, Not so Great Hotel

We stayed at this Hotel in April, 2008 for one night, prebooked thru Asiarooms.com. The Room at Silom was not as good as advertised, $44 thru Asia Rooms, definitely not deserving of the 3 star rating they gave it and definitely very worn, tired, ragged looking, and stinking of cigarette smoke. Room was large with rather large bath, A/C, TV. Taxi from airport, metered, 370 baht, including 50 baht service charge and 40 baht toll fees.
Hotel charges 100baht/hr for internet and does not prorate!
Free breakfast buffet was very, very, good by Asia standards, inc omelet/eggs made to order (at last!!! Eggs that are actually COOKED!!, A first in three weeks of travel in Asia.)
There is also a great food court in the same building with a large variety of food at very reasonable prices.

Unique Quality: None.

Very nice at a low cost

My wife and I stayed here in July 2007 and we only paid about 30 dollars US for a room. The rooms were in very good condition, the bed was a little firm but still comfortable. The TV had CNN and the bathroom had reliable and clean hot and cold running water. There was only one 110V plug in the bathroom but as all of my electronics (laptop, cell phone, shaver) ran on 100V to 240V, I had no problems. The a/c was excellent as well. There is a very nice restaurant on the first floor and a smaller one indoors adjacent to it - the food was excellent and reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and we were never followed or pressured to buy anything from the little shops on the first floor. Overall I would recommend this hotel to any westerner.

Unique Quality: The room was basic if a little small but not lacking for any amenity. I would only say they need to place a mini coffee-maker in the room, but this is a tall order in the land of instant coffee!

An oasis of tranquility in Bangkok

Situated towards the Expressway end of Silom Rd,this little oasis of calm is quickly and easily reached from the new airport. It's more likely that you'll have to take a touted vehicle into town as only Taxi Meter drivers with an license of ten years or more can do pick-ups.Something of a scam but for the 30km trip it's still only £14, or, saunter down to departures where you can pick up a Taxi Meter and pay no more than £6.50.The hotel itself is lowrise, built in an up-country style of open verandas, tinkling water and vegetation. An open air restaurant surrounded by craft shops, health spa, jewelers etc, none of whom pester you into purchasing. In the evening there's traditional Thai entertainment;dancing, sword fighting and the inevitable plincky plincky music but again none of it's in your face and it's easy to find a quiet corner and enjoy the very good food on offer.I had a New Deluxe room booked via Asia Rooms.com at £19 per night (room price),very large, huge bed,air conditioned, good bathroom, all spotlessly clean.BBC news 24 and HBO movie channel to entertain you while your body clock adjusts. The staff were uniformly lovely, helpful and polite people and seemed to appreciate my laboured attemps to speak the language. No more than ten minutes walk to the Surasak sky train station,15 to Patpong night market, half an hour to the fantastic Suan Lum night bazaar and about 10 mins to the Oriental Express boat pier.Tailors A.Song and his brother AH.Song's shops are close by too.Go nowhere else!A great hotel, reasonbly priced, well staffed and conveniently located.

Unique Quality: I couldn't say there was anything outstanding about the hotel just that it's well maintained, very well priced and conveniently placed to explore a lot of the city.Good for families, businessmen, romantic couples etc.Quiet with some great restaurants and streetside dining close to hand. And if you turn left out at the front and then walk up a couple of streets there's a great little laundry service at a fraction of what the hotel charges.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the place and I'll very definitely be returning there next trip.

You are on the right track. The Silom area is the one that is near Patphong. When I was there, I stayed at the Narai hotel. Other hotels in that area that are 3 stars are Tower Inn, Elegance Suite, Silom City Inn, Silom Village Inn, Pinnacle Lumpinee. Or should you need very close one to Patpong, about 50 meters, there is also one Youth hostel that I happen to see, the name is something like Thailand Hostel, though, just like other youth hostels, it is a dorm type but have single rooms as well but shared bathroom. The tour guide that I got in Thailand brought me to this place where she has to pick up another guest. Most of the guests who stayed there were backpackers from Europe when I asked from the receptionist. But I have not seen an elevator.
