Apartments by the Lake

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 13, 2015

These are nice, spacious, good value apartments in a pleasant part of Bangkok with good shops and restaurants nearby. It's not central, but it's close enough to two metro stations that you can walk to either, and they operate a free tuk-tuk service. It's also not far from the main Sukhumvit thoroughfare and Soi Cowboy. The facilities are excellent, with a rooftop pool with a fantastic view of the Bangkok skyline at sunset, and a great little play area for kids.

Only one thing spoiled it - just one incident. While I know Bangkok has a few scams, you need to trust that your hotel won't be in on them. So when I ordered a taxi and got picked up by a guy who refused to turn on his meter and instead wanted to sell me some expensive and unwanted tours I was very annoyed. So be sure to ask for a METERED taxi, so that they know you're no sucker.

Apart from that, though, the service was excellent. And after we left they went to great lengths to try and reunite us with some valuable items we'd left behind - more than I would have expected as we were out of the country by then.

Directions: Near Phrom Phong BTS station.

Since we were a rather big group it was decided that we book one of their three bedroom units over booking 2 to 3 hotel rooms. Upon arrival at the airport, we did not have a hard time finding friendly their staff welcomed us. My only complaint was that their driver who transported us was a bit of a fast driver. Once a the hotel the check in was quick and we were soon escorted to our room. The unit was very nice and had a small kitchen complete with a stove, refrigerator, and kitchen implements. There was also two bathrooms and a living room with a plasma TV and a DVD player. The room was clean and it looked like it was newly refurbished. Bedrooms were also nice though their high pillows were a bit hard getting used to.

This hotel's location offer both good and bad news for travelers. The good news is that it's about a kilometer away from the main road you won't be disturbed by passing traffic as you sleep. The bad news is it's a bit far from the nearest Skytrain or subway station. They do offer a tuk-tuk service to within a 5 minute walk of the stations but you will need to walk when coming back which could be hard after a day of sightseeing and shopping. It is also within a few minutes walk of a few convenience stores in case you're in the mood for a late snack.

Their buffet breakfast service had a great variety of foods from fried eggs and sausages to fresh fruit to porridge. Their staff were also on hand to serve you either coffee or tea and not much else.

Overall my stay at the hotel was a pleasant one. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was clean and newly renovated.

Unique Quality: Indoor and outdoor pool
Convenience store
Gym
Game Room

Check out their website for more pictures. Price is affordable & reasonable with breakfast too. The 2-bedrooms are great for family with children. Come with full kitchen facilities. They also provide washing machine with dryer function. 1 nite for USD100.

Unique Quality: We liked the indoor swimming pool.
