River Cruise
by Audrey118
We stayed at the Marriott - by the river and they have a shuttle boat to transfer us from the hotel to Sathorn pier or another route to Oriental pier then to Rivercity....all this for free...so I guess even if you are not a hotel guest - you can actually travel on it as if you are - nobody is going to question you and it is rather a nice derstressing ride on the boat. There are of course organised river cruises with lunch or dinner or even cocktail drinks to watch the sunset etc. The Marriotts run the Manorha cruise which is an old converted rice barge - quite luxurious up and down the river. On this time of the year, and for the 4th successive year, there is a musical play The River of Kings held at the Ratchaworadit Pier
Grand Palace
by SirRichard
The Grand Palace is a must for any tourist in Bangkok. It's a huge area so reserve at least one whole morning for it: palaces, temples, gardens.... What impressed me most was the highly decorated buildings and the thousands of statues all around. Take a look at impressive Thai-style roofs...
Tickets for B200 (includes a ticket to Vimanmek Royal Mansion). Visitors must wear shoes, long pants / skirts (some ugly ones are available at entrance) and have the shoulders covered. Open daily from 8:30 to 15:30.
Muang Boran ~ Scripture Repository n Bell Tower
by Audrey118
The Scripture Repository and The Bell Tower
This repository houses the Tripitaka, the entire collection of Buddhist Scriptures, originally came from Wat Bang Yai at Bang Khonthi in Samut Songkhram province.
In ancient days the repositories rested on piles and stood in the middle of specially-constructed artificial ponds to protect the delicate palm-leaf manuscripts from white ants and other parasites.
This repository sits in the centre a pond.
The outside walls of the repository contain valuable old murals depicting the life of the Lord Buddha. Beside the Scripture Repository is the Bell Tower, obtained from the same monastery.
Songkran!
by aukjejetty
The craziest time in Bangkok has to be Songkran, the Thai New Year. It is going on for three days. You will not escape water or white stuff (some kind of dough) on your face and everywhere else.
Especialy when you are white you will have to take a lof of water and dough. I would advise to buy a good weapon (big watergun) and just defend yourself as well as you can!
Cotton clothes and sunblock
by ukirsari
Going around Bangkok, bring a comfortable backpack. And added with empty bag to bring the souvenirs :) Cotton shirts and cargo pants are necessary, because Thailand has hot climate. Then added with sandals or sneaker and hat. And you can bring a light raincoat too, for avoid bad weather accidentaly. Tissues and refreshing tissues, sunblock with SPF above 15, paracetamol and mineral water. Bring your receipt and copy of documents for preventive act and best results.
