From Bkk airport-to Chumpon- Ko Tao

by FHO

Could you help with information what is the best (cheapest) option to get from the airport to the railwaystation and how (if possible?) to book/buy a rail ticket in advance to Chumpon to get the boat to Ko Tao from there?

Why not spend a couple days in Bangkok and during that time you can book your own ticket at the train station?? Even Bangkok is warm and sunny at times (when you get out of the shadows of tall skyscrapers.) See the city for a couple days and decompress from your trip. A hotel near the Skytrain will allow you to connect with the subway at Asoke. The subway will take you to the main train station.

(Even Bangkok and Chiang Mai has nice summertime type sunny weather!)

What time do you arrive at the Bangkok airport? Your options are more limited if you arrive late at night. Right now, you could take the new Rail Link to Makkasan Station (for 45 baht after Jan. 1.) From Makkasan you can walk to the subway, the subway ends up at the main train station.

Another option is the Airport Express Bus to get to the train station. Use AE-4.

You were planning to see other cities (like Bangkok or Chiang Mai for instance) than just a common beach - right?

Good luck.

Travel Tips for Bangkok

When in Thailand remember to smile

by easterntrekker

No matter how busy the cooks in the little stalls seem to be , or how demanding a customer at the hotel or airport check in ...there always seems to be a smile from the wonderful patient Thai people . We can learn alot from them . When travelling there , put your best face forward and learn to smile. I think the smiling Thai people win hands down as far as my favorite memory of Thailans . It's tough competition too....since there's the food, the beaches in the South , the scenery in the North, the Asian elephants ......I could go on and on.....but the smile.

THE END OF MY FIRST TRIP

by mamasan69

After making a number of trips to Bangkok, I still like to explore to islands more, but there are many interesting things to do and see. It really depends on what a person wants to do, for example sites, nightlife, shopping ect. There are still so many things I haven't seen or done in Bangkok, and therefore a few more trips will be needed. ..hehe. This was the last picture taken on my first trip to Thailand. As you can see by my expression, I wasn't looking forward to leaving this wonderful place and going back home to Canadian winter.
When I left Canada it was about -45c without the wind, so I was glad to see it was only -11 when we returned. However the day we left Bangkok it was 38c during the day so it was still an extreme change for sure.

River Cruise - River City Shopping Complex

by Audrey118

sorreee - no picture of the buidling from the river side...but this is taken at one of the many shops inside. The River City has stops for many cruises, such as to Ayutthaya.

The buidlign itself has several restaurants, lots of special art and craft, antiques store in it.. There is also a place where there is antique auction once a month..usually the first Saturday of the month.

Beware to buy Buddha images...anything about 8 inches or more...cannot be exported...although any sizes of the laughing Buddha can be taken out of the country.

Next door to this building (connected on the second floor) is the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel...not the best looking hotel from the inside...but boy...they have lots of good restaurants,

ETC - is their international cuisine - more like a huge coffee house,

and they have an Italian restaurant...but my favourite is Thara Thong a classical Thai restaurant with great view into the Sofitel Hotel which msyteriously was never occupied despite the completion many years ago.

People in Bangkok

by Sajt

People in Bangkok are very different. In usually the life is slow, people are much slower than people in Europe or the US. The streets are alwas full of people. The are very nice and helpfull. They like learn English. Not many people speaking this language, but they want lear. Help Them!

Meeting Etiquette

by machomikemd

The wai (as mentioned in my other local custom tips) is the traditional form of greeting, given by the person of lower status to the person of higher status.
. Thais generally use first rather than surnames, with the honorific title Khun before the name. Khun is an all- purpose form of address that is appropriate for both men and women
. In general, wait for your host and hostess to introduce you to the other guests. This allows everyone to understand your status relative to their own, and thus know who performs the wai and how low the head should be bowed
