Trang means narrow, tight, smallish in the Norwegian, and that's the spot where this hotel is squeezed into as well. However, behind the street facade opens a nice courtyard with nice sculpted pools and peace and relative quiet. Skylight high above keeps the city noises out.
I stayed here two nights and am ready to recommend Trang Hotel to anyone who is searching for a good location near the historical centre, proximity to the monuments and not too far away from the entertainment areas.
If you do not care for huge hotels, this place is also good. The staff will remember you.
Inhouse restaurant that I did not care too much about, perhaps there are too many foreigners around this place, so the authenticity of food has lost out and the taste gone bland while the prices have kept up? Chinese theme restaurant.
Seems to attract tourists with children and generally a quiet crowd.
Unique Quality: Good swimming pool.
Nice, decorative fish pools.
Internet access, but fairly expensive (relatively speaking) when I visited.
Sometimes good discounts, special low internet booking prices.
Conference rooms for family and business events.
Directions: Block next to the United Nations building, entrance from Wisutkasat road across from Wat Tritosathep.
Located in Banglampu area of Bangkok. Breakfast buffet was located at the open air courtyard with fish pond and plants. What a great way to start your day. Rooms are clean. I stayed at the building that has swimming pool. It seems to be newer and cleaner. The rooms in the reception building are a bit old. Receptionists are friendly.
Unique Quality: Very near to Khaosan Road. In the evening, there are plenty of local street food within walking distance. Don't miss out Wat Indraviharn nearby. It has a huge golden standing buddha.
I stayed at the Trang Hotel for a few days with my wife in 2005. The rooms were not new of fancy, but clean. The breakfast was good, but not great. It was nice to have food to start the day though. I enjoyed the pool. It felt nice to cool off in the evening after being out in the humid, dirty air of Bangkok. I would reccomend this for any budget minded traveler.
I stayed 2 nights here so it was ok, but it is slightly out of the way, if you need to be in the city centre, otherwise it was fine but book on the net as it is cheaper, well 300 Baht cheaper... lol
However do not expect the hotel to look like the picture on the net.
The photographers in Asia should all get awards for bert picture... amazing, none of the places I stayed looked as good as the pictures.
Unique Quality: It has a pool, which is great after a day out in the town.
we got a pretty good deal through www.reliancetravel.com.. usd26 per nite with breakfast.. the hotel overall is pretty nice looking.. nice outdoor dining for breakfast.. nice pool.. the downside of this place is it is a bit old.. so u get a bit os the musty smell.. and though it is in khao san area, it is actually quite a walk to khao san road.. but then again, at that price for a decent hotel, it's good value..
Unique Quality: we loved the outdoor dining place.. it's a nice centre courtyard surrounded by trees and water features.. love it!
