    Right in the centre!

    by

The Viengtai Hotel lies right in the centre of Bangkok, the place for backpackers, with small streets, restaurants, lots of activity, live performances, lots of shops, it is FUN!!! The hotel is okay, the breakfast is fine, and there is a cafe with nice drinks... so a real good place to stay, we stayed here two nights in the beginning of our holiday and one night at the end. They have a storage room for your luggage if your flight leaves late at night. Their taxiservice is quite expensive, if you go on the street you will find a taxi that brings you to the airport for a lot cheaper!!

Unique Quality: The hotel has a swimming pool, but it is not that nicely situated, but sure is refreshing with the high temperatures in Bangkok!

Close to Khao san rd, an older hotel but well kept and great service.

Unique Quality: Thai tourism has a branch here that can book great day trips, also great advice for getting around town. Free use of interenet in the office.
    Great swimming pool

Awesome Location with Breakfast for a deal

    by

Great staff, awesome location, less than $20 US a day! including breakfast! I was absolutely impressed by my stay and would stay there again. It was very close to Khao San Road where there were great shops and a road that was closed off for walking. The room was small, I had a TV, and good breakfast. I ate food on the streets and anywhere it smelled good. I was there for 2 days, the help spoke great english and I didn't have a problem getting a Tuk Tuk or Taxi or transportation to the airport. It was a pretty good distance to the airport, but was in the heart of where I wanted to be, which is by all the gold buddah temples (Wats).

I used sawadee.com to reserve the room. I did look around on expedia and other places and decided to go with something with more local flavor and save on price. I'm glad I did in this case. I recommend it and would stay there again.

    Unique Quality: Location, Location, Location

Directions: Around the corner from Khao San Road, and right down the road from a Thai Kick Boxing area.

Affordable Hotel near the Fun Zone

    by

Actually, I'd say this was more a budget hotel. It's not too bad. They gave me a big room with 2 double beds even if I were alone. The rooms were old and the airconditioning was weak but altogether the experience wasn't unpleasant. I loved the location, great for street shopping. Right outside the hotel, the street food was wonderful as well.

Unique Quality: hmm...it did have a pool but i didn't go there. i would say i particularly loved the massage parlors that surrounded the place.

    Mid range

    by

Modern, air conditioned, spacious marble foyer with comfortable chairs and friendly staff greet you on first instance, although reception could be a little more efficient. Rooms can vary apparently, but rooms on 5th floor were spacious, functional and clean. You can open windows, although humidity and street noise may prevent you doing so! A/c units are old and somewhat noisy. Had the slightly odd experience of having to take a shower with my head at an angle - ceiling of the bathroom when standing in the bath is somewhat low!

Breakfasts are fine - buffet style with European, Thai and Japanese breakfasts on offer, even if the breakfast room is somewhat clinical and anodine. Same can be said about the Rosirin Bar and Restaurant - doesn't look the place you would want to spend time in it, even if the food is good.

One huge plus for the Viengtai hotel in this area is the very pleasant swimming pool, found in the courtyard off 3 rd Floor - very welcome place to head for after the humidity of the city.

Surrounds are a little too European for my tastes - more fried eggs and bacon than rice and noodles, and only 100 metres from the Khoa San Road - but even so, great location, comfortable, functional hotel, very 'easy' place to stay - and that swimming pool is an enormous bonus.

Unique Quality: Location is crucial when staying in Bangkok - my preference being near to the old city rather than the modern hotel blocks of Pat Pong. Viengtai certainly fits the bill is this quarter, with the Royal Palace and Wat Pho being a 10 minute walk away.

Book through asiarooms.com - cheapest I found on the net.

First stop in 3 week adventure. Walked into a lovely air conditioned room with satellite telly and an amazing bathroom - only stayed 2 nights and was worth the extra cost (at least £15 a night!)

Unique Quality: Lovely rooms & luxury bathroom.
Good job I'm not fussed about views though!

    Awesome breakfast.

Nice to have a swimming pool but it's not one of the best.Staff are friendly & welcoming - real treat after a 24 hour journey.

I've recommended this place a number of times on VT because its within walking distance to all the sites including the Grand Palace while being handy for Koh San Road (though that's not always an advantage).

Even though this is a central hotel you don't actually feel like you're in the Koh San area which is probably a good thing. The rooms were huge and smartly decorated. The breakfast were excellent with local as well as european food. For the first night stay we got dinner included too.

Unique Quality: The pool here is a real bonus given the humitidy in the city. You'll really appreciate it after a day site seeing.

luxurious, but in the Khao San District

    by

This hotel was very comfortable. A large room with a separate bathroom. All very clean and airconditioned. Additionally there is a swimming pool.
We felt very safe here and it was a good place to return to when being too exhausted after a busy Bangkok day!

Unique Quality: The pool is very relaxing. Breakfast is extremely good and I was looking forward to the continental style food we got every morning. Very close to Khao San Road.

Viengtai - a proper hotel near Khoasan Road

    by

This is probably the nearest 'proper' hotel near the Khoasan Road. The hotel is fairly average, but does have a good range of shops in it for excursions and travel. But I felt the hotel was beginning to show its age.
Breakfast here is ok but I've had better elsewhere.
But I thought it was probably a bit overpriced for what you get.

Unique Quality: Within easy walking distance of Khoasan Road with all it's bars restaurants etc. Also it is easy to get to the Chao Phraya for either the express or regular ferries.

by TracyG about The Viengtai Hotel

The rooms, staff, bar, food were all great value for the money, I was very impressed. It is a 5 min. walk from the excitement (and bars) of Khao San Road, it is also a great place to start/finish a tour, as it has all the comforts that you could want.
