Bihai Resort or Nern Chalet?

by Cyinyang

Newbie to Hua Hin. Would appreciate honest lowdown to either (2 short listed hotels):
Nern Chalet or
Bihai Resort

Bihai looks good value from hotel webbie direct for peak xmas period @bht2990 (deluxe with terrace). But 7kms from town, can see any seaview from pics. Nern via reseller same price (pending cfm), but with great sea views.

You know how it's like, pics can deceive.. Grateful for any heads up as I need to ink booking pronto. Thanks a zillion

I think the choice is easy. Nern Chalet is at the beach with lovely views from the terrace, small pool but nice location and well designed.

The Bihai is 'not' on the beach and in fact is in a rather run-down soi that goes down to the beach, perhaps 100-120 meters. Also there was a great deal of construction not far away, huge construction cranes.
The beach though is long and wide, pity the Bihai is just further on than the others. The place itself is ok but pity about the construction and the state of the road nearby.

I would certainly go for Nern Chalet, you can walk along to Supatra by the Sea which is an excellent restaurant, Nern Chalet is about 4 km from town, Bihai is about another 1 km south of there. From Nern Chalet just walk across the road daytime for the pick-up bus that goes past the Main shopping Mall in Hua hin, continues into town and ends in the central market ( this service is daylight hours only ) and only costs 10 Baht each.

2,950 a night including tax, service and breakfast about right for Nern Chalet a that time.

Having said all this - have you looked at the Anantasila ? Now that is much larger than Nern Chalet and is in my opinion a lovely beach hotel for the price, you would not get seaview for that price but the hotel is right on the beach a few hundred meters north from Bihai and that beach is long and wide. or 3,000 a night you would get a balcony room overlooking the quite large swimming pool ( note, at Nern Chalet the pool is really very small indeed ).
Only thing is Anantasila doesn't include breakfast, but you can pay for that or just get something from the beach cafes quite cheap.
For the price range of 3,000 I would take a serious look a the Anantasila, I think you would be pleasantly surprised. It is larger than Nern but the beach location is one of the best. Try Beachsiam for good rate for Hua Hin.

Re: Bihai Resort or Nern Chalet (or Anansila?)

by Cyinyang

Thanks, appreciate heads up. On fri evening, I'd plonked booking Bihai after getting negative response from reseller for mountain view, and before your invaluable comments sat week. Was also anxious on peak season (tight?) bookings.

Will see if I can unravel things and check out Anansila. Was suspicious on forlorn looking soi for Bihai from some pics

Travel Tips for Hua Hin

Nude by the beach..

by yen_2

Nope! It's not my baby...I just saw this babies running clothless in the beach..He was very happy being in the beach..I didn't saw a nanny with him though...Funny to see this one after all! My son was looking towards him, too! I guess, he was thinking if only I can do that too...heheh

'Tis was in Khao Takiab. They have whiter beaches compare to any part in Hua Hin.

Celestial city of the mountain

by kyoub

In the late 19th century, King Mongkut (Rama IV) built a hill-top palace on the outskirts of Petchaburi town, just 50 km north of Hua Hin. Phra Nakhon Khiri Palace or Khao Wang Palace had its own observatory, overlooking the river and sea. It was here the King embarked on a study of astronomy that culminated in him accurately predicting the exact time of a solar eclipse.
Khao Wang
This 92-metre hillock is on the northern approach to Phetchaburi provincial capital. Phetchaburi residents refer to it as Khao Wang, literally Palace Hill. The area is now known as Phra Nakhon Khiri National Museum and is open to the public every day from 9.00 AM until 4.00 PM
You don't have to climb the steps to get to the top, there is a cable car that takes you there.

All fresh

by stedeb about Markets

The markets have plenty to offer in the way of food and drinks. Just wander around until you find a menu that suits.
Try a different one every night.
The cost of diet coke takes the price up stick to water or their amazing fresh fruit drinks.

Khao Takiab Temples

by sarahreynold

The Temple at the top of Khao Takiab offers amazing views plus a large temple area including a good steep climb to the top. Feed the monkeys and visit the many Shrines. Here at Khao Takiab you will find both male and female monks. A very rewarding place to visit.

Pranburi Park Reserve

by iNorv9

The Pranburi Park Reserve is set on a strip of land connecting Hua Hin and Pranburi. Here you'll find a wooden walkway which cuts through a dense mangrove forest. The loop takes about 45 minutes to finish.

Bottom-line: A relaxing walk in a unique setting. If you've never been to a mangrove forest before, this provides a nice, relatively quick introduction.
