The Change in Scenery
by jenniferhen
This place was such a refreshing change from the smoggy and polluted Bangkok! The long bus trip (4.5 hours) was actually enjoyable as it gave me a chance to press my face to the window and truly take in some beautiful landscape! Once we got into the city, I experienced a much less tourism and got a chance to really talk with some locals. I enjoyed my time there alot and can not wait to go back one day! I miss the food of Thailand and the warm smiles from the Thai people. It was nice to be around such pleasant and warm people. Of course I truly miss the beaches though, I am knee deep in snow right now:)
Get away from the crowds to Kaeng Krachan NP
by riproy
If you want to get away from the people and see some greenery for a day, head for the waterfalls at Kaeng Krachan National Park, about 50 km out of the town i think. If there are a few of you, you can rent a pickup truck and driver for the day for not a lot of money.
At the park, there is a trail that will take you thru the forest up to a series of waterfalls. As you walk, you will feel the air cool down - it feels very refreshing in teh hot season. None of the waterfalls we saw (we didn't see half of them) were spectacularly high, but at many of them you can jump into the pool of water at the waterfall to cool off. I think there are nearly 20 waterfalls if you walk all the way up, but we took it easy and played in the water for quite a while.
I put this under 'off the beaten path' because in 1994, there was nobody else there. I don't know what it is like now. It is a great day trip.
If you are by yourself or there are just two or you, you can rent motorcycles in HH for the day.
Another trip suggestion is going to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park about 20 km south of HH town. I have written more about it on my Thailand page in the hiking travelogue.
Try Roti!
by Paul_the_Seeker about Carts on the Street
This is my favorite desert in Thailand, but I can only find it in certain places, as it's usually made by Indian/Muslims. It's essentially a very thin pancake fried on a hot plate in oil and butter with fillings of your choice added later.
It's quite impressive to see the raw dough flattened, then skillfully flipped over and over by hand until it is stretched paper thin.
I always get banana with sweetened, condensed milk poured on top, but other fruits and syrups can be chosen. I hear in other countries, vegetables and meats added, but in Thailand, I've always seen it just as a dessert. The pancake is folded over the fillings until the whole thing resembles a square. They are great with coffee, but you have to eat them soon or they'll get soggy. Around 30-40 baht.
Golf in Thailand
by bulldogtwo
Your question is really going to depend on, at least what i consider, When and weather. I played during the dry season, Feb through april and it was just too dry, You get some great rolls! but too dry for me. I don't care how good the course is that is going to be a major factor just as much as too wet such as during the rainy season. In Burma we used to play Monsoon Golf, too wet but challenging!
There are some really good courses all over Thailand, Hua Hin included and all present their own challenges. And if you've ever played in Asia, what I like is the loonngg par 5's of almost 600 yards. If you are looking for the best, well then you are going to have to get out and do some playing and only you can decide that. Definitly do not overlook Bangkok and Chiang Mai for their courses. Another suggestion is to get in contact with someone in Thailand and they can give you a better idea as to what specifically you are looking for. Which by the way you did not mention in this. Couple places to look are www.golfthailand.org and www.golfinthailand.com and www.golfthailand.net
I played the Majestic Creek in Hua Hin, but as I said, I was not too impressed but that was really only due to the dry weather. The best time of the year for me to golf would be mid to late October through mid January when everything is still lush and green.
Hope that helped
Good luck and have fun!
Sam Roi Yot National Park Hua Hin
by sarahreynold
The national park has birdwatching, wetlands, mangrove swamps, temples, caves and beaches. It is only 40 minutes from town so well worth a visit, it really is a 'must see' whehn visiting Hua hin so you can get out of town and see the natural beauty of the area.
Amazing birdwatching, a very popular place for birdwatching in Thailand
