by Monica_lo

Has anyone stayed at this place yet,I know it has only recently opened but wonder if by chance anyone has stayed there yet.

I haven't stayed at the resort itself, but was in Hua Hin in dec. If you've never been there, I think you'll like it. It's got real character. It's a royal resort so it's not over the top like some other places. there's plenty of good food about and the nightlife is relaxed. The ideal place to start your holiday. It's about 2 and a half hours in a taxi from the airport. I think that costs about 1500 baht but don't quote me on that. Phuket is an 11 hours bus ride away and you can get a boat to most places.

have a good time

Thanks, we go to Hua Hin very often for weekend breaks so know it quite well.
We saw the Seahorse being built but have not seen it since it opened so wondering if anyone has stayed there yet.

Travel Tips for Hua Hin

My travel buddies' 2nd honeymoon

by syllybabe

Bing and I grew up together and we've travelled together before but this is the first time I've travelled with her and her husband.

On this trip I became official photographer and Toots became my official porter.

I probably would have enjoyed my room at the Sofitel more if I were honeymooning like they were but I wasn't so lucky on this trip.

Rent a scooter, see the are on your own schedule

by iNorv9

Probably the best decision I made during my visit to Hua Hin was renting a scooter. The greatest benefit of getting around by scooter is the flexibility; after all, you're not restricted any bus schedules or routes. In terms of safety, Thai drivers are used to many scooters on the roads, and I found them to be very courteous and cautious when passing.
Disclaimer: Be forewarned that there is a certain element of risk involved in renting a scooter. I purchased an "insurance agreement" for a few extra dollars, but to be honest, I'm not really sure how much legal legitimacy these actually have. So if you get in a wreck, regardless of who's at fault, I really have no idea what would follow....

Quick tip: Take a few pics of your scooter before leaving, to prevent being accused of damage you're not responsible for.

Cost: about $8 for manual transmission; $13 for automatic per 24 hour period. The manual isn't particularly difficult to learn, but automatic is probably worth the extra $5 for beginners.

Bottom-line: An economical, efficient means for getting around Hua Hin. Highly recommended for those who can't afford rental cars.... Can be chancy in that the consequences of getting in an accident are uncertain, but just don't drive like an idiot and you should be fine.

Great Seafood and Excellent View

by sarahreynold about Rua Rimtarn Hua Hin Restaurant at Khao Takiab

This restaurant is built in the shape of a large fishing boat and overlooks the small fishing village at Khao Takiab beach which is about 15 minutes from the center of Hua hin. The seafood is excellent, avergae price, quiet and pleasant location, worth the trip to get out of the busy part of town.

Wat Huay Mongkhon - Biggest monk you've ever seen

by iNorv9

The Wat Huay Mongkhon is home to the world's largest Luang Poh Taud sculpture. This massive black figure is well-known in Thailand, and has received many royal visits.

Transportation: Located about 13 km east of Hua Hin, a taxi costs about 500 baht ($12.50) round-trip from the train station.

Bottom-line: Impressive statue, but only about a 20-30 minute visit. Should be a bit lower on the "to-do" list.

Short Trip to the Beach from Bangkok

by rbgrant7

"Hue Hin"

Hue Hin is a relatively short 3 hrs trip from Bangkok down to the beach. They finished most of the highway construction and so it is much faster than in the past. There are some other smaller beaches that you can stay at as well like Cha am (Spelling?). There is a good sized shopping area that is busier in the evening to enjoy some shopping and people watching. Most of the goods can be found in Bangkok and probably at a cheaper price. We stayed 30 mins south of Hue Hin in Pranburi. This is a much quietier place to stay and very few foreigners. If you are looking for shopping or bars then this isn't the place to go. There are some good parts of the beach to enjoy and relax.
