Cha-am & Hua Hin

by olga.prat

Hi,
I am planning to go to this are for holidays and I am hesitant whether to go to Cha-am or Hua Hin. I would like to practice some kiteboarding and walking around... nothing special, just enjoying the place. What could you recommend me?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hua Hin is a nicer town and a favorite of mine to go to from Bangkok. The Kings vacation home is out there so it is more peaceful. There is a night market where vendors sell their goods and food. The train stops in Hua Hin and a site to see, then there is the Royal Golf Club, one of the oldest in Thailand. They have a beach and temples and a charming town that is walking distance to everything. Cha-am on the other hand is more beach and less exotic? You can do your kiteboarding on the side road because there is less people there. It has nothing special and bugalows are like shacks. I reccomend Hua Hin

Hi I been to both places few years ago and stayes in Hua Hin. Honestly I cant really remember of Cha-am beach as we just stop over a while. Cha-am beach road seem more happening for young traveller... Hua Hin is quieter and have a lot of 5 star hotel along the beach. Unless you stay near the town area or the transportation will be a problem for traveling around. Overall nothing much I can say. If you dont wish to travel so far a way, then Cha-am is better for your choice.

There is not much to Cha-Am other than the hotels. I think Hua Hin is a much better option. See my pages for some tips.

It depends very much on what you want. I haven't been to Hua Hin for a few years but I was in Cha-am a couple of months ago. Hua Hin would be a much more "developed" resort, large hotels etc., whereas Cha-am is much more laid back and possibly what Hua Hin used to be like. If you want all your creature comforts, swimming pools, Western style retaurants etc. Hua Hin is probbly better but for a quieter stay Ch-am would fit the bill. I believe Cha-am is also a bit cheaper if money is a big consideration.

Either place the seafood is excellent!

Hope this assists,

fergy.

I have stayed at both places and prefered Hua Hin to Cha-am.

But whatever you decide you can always visit the other becasue there are only one hour apart.

I've been to Thailand many times, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya. But last year we went to Hua Hin and found it to be a hidden gem. Nice and clean, no doubt becase the King has his Palace there. But more laid back than say Phuket or Pattaya. We stayed at the Hilton, right on the beach, one of the best I've found anywhere. Right on the beach where you can have lunch everyday,(from one of the stalls, fantastic!)...and cheap, fresh cooked squid straight off the night fishing boats. There's a brewery/bar adjoining the Hilton, terrific and literally hundreds of nearby bars catering for all sorts. We loved it there so much we're back in November for 10 nights.
It ticks all my boxes, location on the beach, great food, good bars, seafood, European, golf courses. A place to relax and enjoy yourself...and a very good tailor.Mike & Co. Equally as good if not better than a good tailor in Bangkok

Travel Tips for Hua Hin

Visit the surrounding areas

by sarahreynold

Hua Hin Town has a relaxing charm, the fishing piers, the quiet streets, but as Hua hin becomes more busy don't miss the surrounding areas. Cha Am is just 20 minutes away, try a trip at the weekend when it's busy with visitors from Bangkok and you enjoy the fun atmosphere, or weekdays when it is quiet. Take the Green pick-up bus from the Central Market ( just 7 baht ) and journey 10-15 minutes south of town to Khao Takiab. This is a lovely area where you will find Temples, the famous Golden Buddha, plus the great clear waters of Hua Don beach at Khao Takiab Bay. Relax on the beach loungers and beach chairs, have a meal on the beach, elephant ride, the Banana boats, maybe Jetski(be careful ! ) or just wander around the fishing village. You can also rent bicycles and explore the famous temple areas. Nice cafes and restaurants. If you go to Hua hin and don't spend time at Khao Takiab and the beach at Takiab Bay you are missing one of the best beach treats Hua hin has to offer. The beach is long and the water is crystal clear, it actually faces more south. Also get into the hills behind Hua Hin, also Elephant rides and a great view. Don't forget Pak Nam pran and the Sam Roi Yot National Park too. So glad that I discovered Khao Takiab Bay, Palm trees and beachchairs, cool clear water, certainly the best beach !

Sam Roi Yot National Park near Hua Hin

This is a 'must see' for anyone visiting Hua Hin. There are half day tours and other day trips including the national park. The wetlands, mangroves, birdwatching, mountains, temples, caves, beaches, a great day out !
In my opinion one of the best day trips and best tours from Hua hin or Cha Am, or Pranburi ( which is very near ). Shows how marvelous this part of the Sunrise Coast of Thailand is.

Hmm....houseflies food??

by JanetChan about Lamer Restaurant

We had dinner at this restaurant called Lamer :P haha! Looking back, we are really silly to have chosen to eat at this restaurant since the name already suggest it is Lamer :P

The food portions, quality and price are absolutely reasonable. BUT its is sad though that we find houseflies in almost every dishes, from the Tom Yum Soup, vegetables, crabs :((( They served nice big prawns but all appetite is being spoiled by the houseflies :(( Houseflies dishes?? Actually Hua Hin had alot of big houseflies !!! So maybe its is not just this restaurant ....
