Helpless against females
Just had to show you how Toots looked after we told him we're moving to Sofitel. With a resigned sigh, he sat in the living room and waited as we gathered our stuff to move out.

Your own thai cottage by the beach
When we got off the taxi from the train station, we had a few ideas from the Lonely Planet guide as to where we wanted to stay. Winston suggested the Anantara, which, would have been perfect as well, but it was farther down the beach and we didn't really have time to explore since we arrived after 5pm.
The first hotel we checked out was the Hilton but I was the first to shake my head no when I saw that it was a high rise. That is just not my idea of a beach getaway.
When we took a peek inside Central Huahin Village, it reminded us of cottages in Baguio but with a beach setting...not bad...and the rate, 5,540baht for a two bedroom bungalow. With that, we checked in.
After dropping our bags inside the room, off we went for our walk on the beach and to our next door neighbor, the Sofitel.
Bing, the hotelier that she is, loved it but hardly expected the prices to be reasonable. When we were told it wasn't the 7000baht we read from the guidebook, Bing begged her husband to move.
Toots didn't really have a choice in the matter. The only thing left for him to do was move the bags and find me someone to share my room with ;-)
Don't get me wrong. Central Hua hin Village was great. We could have stayed there and still had breakfast and enjoyed the facilities next door but we liked Sofitel too much on sight.
Unique Quality: Pool, quiet, secluded bungalows, right on the beach, and great value.

Hua Hin's historic first hotel
Originally built as the Hua hin Railway hotel in 1923, this historic building was restored to its former glory in 1986 as a graceful colonial inn by the sea with teakwood stairs and high ceilings.
Comparable to The Oriental in Bangkok and Raffles in Singapore in terms of history and Asian hospitality, the Sofitel has an edge over the other two...more than 10 hectares of lush tropical gardens with flowers and palm trees with the heady scent of frangipani lingering in the air everytime the sea breeze blows.
At 4,700baht a night during the off-peak season, we couldn't resist.
For how we ended up here, see the next tip.
Unique Quality: Several restaurants to choose from, 3 big pools, waking up to beach views or lush gardens, a spa for relaxing massages, and overall a wonderful experience.

Colonial Style Luxury Hotel
Maybe Sofitel Central Hua Hin Resort is one of Southeast Asia's most romantic hotels.
The hotel's colonial structure and an old world style service makes you feel like you are a member of a royal family by yourself.
Hotel's former name was Railway Hotel. Nearby is a summer palace of King of Thailand
Unique Quality: Hotel has 207 luxurious appointed rooms and suites. High ceilings, period furniture and elegant detailing blend together to create a certain luxury feeling
The decor is rich polished hardwood softened by the warm tones of Thai silk, in a style evoking the spirit of the 1920s.
Hotel is located right on the beach and has three freeform swimming pools.
Especially the large garden is magnificent. Shape cutted trees are amazing.

Jelly fish is it a problem in September ?
Is the town very quiet or is it still turists hanging around
Re: Sun in Hua Hin
Hi
I went to Hua Hin last year in September and we had some rain...after all this is the wet season :-) But hey, we still had a great time. I didn't know that there was a jelly fish problem in Thailand.
In Hua Hin I think that there are always tourists around.

Hua Hin is a beuatiful place to go and relax. It is much quieter than other Thailand resorts but you can still find some bargains in the local markets. The people are incredibly friendly here. The beaches are okay but if you stay in a hotel there is usually a pool anyway. Hua Hin is one of our favourite place for some R&R when in Thailand. I haven't heard of the jelly fish problem either.
Re: Sun in Hua Hin
HI there,
I came back from Hua Hin one week ago by staying in City Beach Hotel (1500Baht). The weather is sunny, no rains as far as I was there.
We saw many dead jelly fish along the beach with variety of colours and sizes. Hua Hin is built-up and quiet, best place to relax..:)
Happy travelling!!!
Cheers,
Karl
Re: Re: Sun in Hua Hin
We were there in the middle of the week and there were hardly any tourists around. It didn't rain while we were there...not that it would have made a difference since the rain doesn't usually last long enough to spoil the fun.
You mentioned jellyfish but I didn't see any two weeks ago.
:-)
Re: Re: Sun in Hua Hin
I was there last weekend, and there were certainly many dead jelly fish around the beach. I guess you can only see it in the morning, during low tide.
HH is very very laid back and relaxed, certainly a better place for relaxation compared to more touristy beaches like pattaya.
The weather was great while I was there, no rain at all.
Hope you enjoy your holiday in HH.

Re: Sun in Hua Hin
good choice on your hotel! enjoy!
jelly fish is there throughout the year, just when they are in the breeding seasons that they are in the abundant...
just in case = first aid for jelly fish stings, a bag of ice!
and get medic's attention if necessary.
no stings, happy travels.
