Thai homes
by kyoub
Thai homes most always have a spirit house on the grounds of their property.
Some are small, resembling doll houses, sometimes they are replicas of the main house, and other times they are very elaborate buildings.
All are adorned daily with offerings of flowers, incense, food and other assorted goodies each day to keep the spirits happy.
travel around by yourself

There are many places where you can rent motorbike or car if you like to travel around by yourself. Hua Hin is not too complicate to travel around in my thought, just only you need a good map in your hand, and go...
Inside the town I think motorbike is more suitable, all street/ roads are quite small. To go further outside the town, you can drive a car.. such as to Khao Takiab, to Cha Am beach or other beaches nearby.. etc
Designed restaurant
by nomadig about Nahb Talay
Nahb Talay seems to be standing in middle of nowhere in Hua Hin. The white modern building has been quite recently erected, it seems, and the rest of the surroundings have not followed the suite yet.
It is, however, an excellent place to have a drink or two when doing a sight-seeing around the town, or visiting Mike & Co. by foot. The menu is extensive, but I cannot say anything about the taste, as we just had drinks there. The prices are a bit steeper than in most of the restaurants, but not outrageously so. The service is swift and very, very polite.
Pranburi
by sarahreynold
Pranbutri starts about 20 minutes south of Hua Hin, but the Pranburi beach areas range from 30 to 40 minutes from Hua Hin, just beyond Pranburi is Dolphin Bay close to the Sam Roi Yot National Park.
Most of the Pranburi Hotels and resorts and also those in Dolphin Bay and the area close to the Sam Roi Yot National Park are listed as Hua Hin. This I pressume is that pranburi is not yet recognized as a destination in it's own right, however it is becoming more popular as a quiet and relaxing beach area beyond Hua Hin. As part of the Sunrise Coast Pranburi has inexpensive beach places to stay right up to top boutique resorts and the luxury Evason Resort and Evason Hideaway Resort and other Pranburi hotels and accommodation.
Close to the national park plus the long coastline this is very much a rest and relaxation area.
The beach is honestly not great, but, the beach areas are quiet and very long, it you are after peace and quiet but within say 30 to 40 minutes of the center of Hua hin these accommodation might be of interest.
Also easy access to the national park, farmlands and rural areas. Snorkeling at Bang Saphan / Koh Talu about 2 hours south.
Holiday at last

"Dolphin Bay"
After a couple of years of purely business travel me and Hanh got a Tet holiday, with no work attached. It was a bit of a last minute things so our choices were limited. Dolphin Bay is a great resort, good price and good service. Our only problem being that its a great place for kids, as we discovered, and did all the other guests there.
We actually had a great time as our only plan for the hols was to do as little as possible.
But I would recomend this place strongly if you have kids in tow, lots of kids, pool with slide and they can make as much noise as they want.
"Monkey Island"
The area around is a national park, though we saw little of it, our one treck of the sun bed was to kayak to monkey island. No dolphins in sight but they do drop in from time to time.
