Kanchanaburi / Phetchaburi.

by cjlouey

Hi all, I would like to spend 5 days round trip from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi then Phetchaburi and return. Has anyone done this route? I am hoping to leave and return from BKK airport.

We didn't do this route but many of our friends did and had no trouble doing it in less than a week.

Are you driving, bussing, training? Which ever way you will be able to do it OK.
Petchaburi is not actually very far from Bangkpok - about 150 K's i think, same with Kanchanaburi so you should be able to do a neat triangle trip.

Travel Tips for Kanchanaburi

Internet Access in Kanchanburi

by astro_kerryn

A good selection of places to use the net in and around town, unfortunately yes, games are BIG with the school kids here and they usually crowd into the places near the center of town. The best places to go to avoid this are where the guest houses are located and the most popular along the road leading to the “Bridge”.
Internet speeds vary depending on the time of day, best in the morning and worst in the early evening.

Caves

by YaaDong

There are many caves to explore in Kanchanaburi. One is Khaow Phoon cave situated on a hill inside a temple .It is not far from Chongkai war cemetery and you can easily get there by longtail boat. It's a bit of a hike up the hill but the view is worth it.
The local kids guided us to the different caves so we gave them a tip .In some of the caves there were Buddha images. These caves were also used by Japanese soldiers as a hospital during Would War II . I was told they used to hide drugs in 'Yah' cave, yah meaning medicine in Thai. The way back was very hot and we were dying of thirst .Luckily there was a small shop selling cold drinks.

Ferry Boat??

by herzog63

I don't think this ferry boat is in use anymore. But when I first visited Kanchanaburi back in 1984 it was the only way except for the Famous Bridge over the River Kwai to get to the other side and that bridge wasn't properly built for vehicle traffic. But now there are several bridges to choose from. I haven't seen the ferry boat on any of my recent trips. If it is still there it will only be about 5 baht to cross the river.

Tiger Temple

by zazatann

“TIME” magazine selected Wat Pa Luangta Bua Yannasampanno Forest Monastery –TIGER TEMPLE as one of the three places in Thailand for the “Best of Asia” year 2006.

You can go to take a photo with tigers after they're full from feeding in the afternoon.

Ticket is 300 Baht

Bridge over the River Kwae

by paradisedreamer

When you are standing in the sweltering heat you can hardly imagine what hell it must have been to build the bridge especially with only a bowl of rice and little water to go on. Most of the men looked like skeletons. There were also many deaths as a result of dysentery and other diseases. The JEATH museum is also very interesting and gives a great insight into daily life.
