More about Oriental Kwai Resort

Loved the Orient Kwai Resort!

by TripAdvisor Member slckiwi

As ther previous reviewers stated, the resort is lovely. We had Unit 9 which is tucked away under some trees. We loved that they did not have any cable TV. It helped with the relaxation segment of our holiday. Make sure you book a day at the spa (they will help with this). The spa was awesome! We also spent a day at the Erawan National Park hiking the waterfall. Absolutely terrific!

Service is better then at a 5 star hotel

We stayed in the Oriental Kwai Resort for 3 nights last October and we loved it.
You don't need to go out and look for a restaurant because the food is excellent. You can book all the excursions at the resort. The rooms are very nice and clean.
We also stayed in a couple of the big 5 star hotels during our trip in Thailand but service and food was better at the Oriental Kwai Resort.
We wish Evelien, Djo and the staff all the best with their excellent resort.

Brilliant!

We chose the property because of the raving reviews on tripadvisor and Oriental Kwai met each expectation!

The resort is on the banks of River Kwai - you can see it run by as you sit for breakfast in their open restaurant. Rooms are essentially large stand-alone cottages in a beautiful garden setting. Cat and dog lovers will be happy to find quite a few adopted strays roaming around to play with!

The rooms are well furnished, very clean, well-sized. Bathroom's good too. There's no cable TV, so the TV set is a bit useless! There's no electric kettle if you are a morning tea person - but reception will be happy to lend you one for the room with tea bags etc at a nominal charge.

Jo and Evelien run the place remarkably well. Service was outstanding. They helped us book a canoeing trip over River Kwai (we recommend it) and a spa day (at Suan Nanachaat - an absolute must!). We also rented their bicycles and scooter a day each to move about town.

If we must choose a weak point, it would be the food. But that's only a minor thing, and there were some meals we heartily enjoyed.

Best Hotel in Thailand

The Oriental Kwai is a beautiful retreat from the chaos of Thailand. We stayed four nights in a bungalow (all the rooms are converted bungalows) and enjoyed every aspect of our stay.

The room is huge, spotless, beautifully presented with mini fridge and complimentary water. The restaurant, though a little pricey by Thai standards, is exceptional and we ate nearly every meal there.

The owners are really lovely - we were given a ride into the town to catch a bus on a moped driven by the owner, completely free of charge. What a nice guy - it really added to the experience.

They can arrange trips and tours, or just give really honest advice. These guys in no way tried to rip us off - something we have found to be a rarity in our time in Thailand! Their beautiful children give the place a really friendly feel, and all the staff act as babysitters next to their day-jobs of constantly making sure the guests have a lovely stay.

A little band of cats and a very sweet dog will make this an animal lovers dream - we played with the cats every evening!

The pool is beautiful, if a tiny bit exposed, but how can you complain when the river Kwai is surging past just a stones throw away?

For very reasonable prices, you get more than what you pay for here - we would reccomend this every time!

Heaven!

The resort is a peace of paradise, located 15 minutes from Kanchanaburi, 10 units, from which we got the most beautiful and big, located on the Kwai river. The couple running the place are unbelievably nice and helpful. The room was so big and above all expectations. The pool although small was very nice. Breakfast is served and not a buffet – very tasty and served in a beautiful view point. We had a great time there and most surely recommend to everyone that want to have a taste of peacefulness and beauty.

A resort to fall in love with

by TripAdvisor Member arnoutarnout

We stayed in Oriental Kwai Resort (also known as OK resort) for three nights at the beginning of our 3 week tour of Thailand. What a great way to start a holiday! Large, spotless bungalows (all with aircon, TV, DVD and fridge) which are cleaned daily. A cosy reception area, where you can enjoy a drink and free wireless internet. Make sure to try some of the snacks they serve! The restaurant overlooks the River Kwai and makes a great location for breakfast or dinner. Overall service of the staff is excellent and the friendly owners Djo and Evelien can arrange any tour you whish for. Make sure to visit the Erawan waterfalls, Hell fire pass and of course the River Kwai bridge.

Perfect.

I stayed at this resort with my boyfriend for 5 days over Christmas and loved it so much, I vowed to get a Trip Advisor account just to write a review.

They have a gorgeous location right on the river, with lovely views and a cute pool for cooling off.

The rooms were fantastic. Everything was top quality with a TV, fridge, DVD player (large selection of DVD's can be borrowed for free from the lobby) and a beautiful porch with comfortable chairs for reading or having a beer.

The resort was quiet, but near lot's of sights including Kanchanaburi, Erawan Falls (a must!) & the Tiger Temple.

The food was amazing - particularly the breakfast. We thought it was reasonably priced, considering the quality.

There are wonderfully friendly dogs & cats around the resort who loved the attention.

The staff at the Oriental Kwai were amazing - both the couple who owned it and everyone working there. They were so lovely and helpful with everything from food requests to getting a taxi - they even drove us to the highway when we needed to catch a bus. Incredible.

I would recommend this resort to anyone and look forward to returning.

Enjoy!

Charming place to stay! Best in Kanchanaburi

by TripAdvisor Member PaulineNorway

The Oriental Kwai Resort is a haven of peace. If you are lucky enough to book early and secure the bungalow nearest the river (as we did) you will be treated to an amazing view of the river (and near enough for staff to see you sitting gazing at the river early in the morning and rush over with a cup of coffee!) New, immaculately decorated, roomy bungalows. Lovely infinity pool/jacuzzi, nice food, VERY pleasant and helpfull hosts and staff.
We were assisted at all times with transport to and from Bangkok, trips out and about the area, free shuttle to nearby spa etc. etc. and we thorougly enjoyed our 2 days in Kanchanaburi.
We went to the Tiger Temple and were quite overcome with wonder - make up your own mind if you want to go or not - but this may be the only way to ensure that there are tigers left by the time the Thai government organises a really secure natural park or similar, where such magnificent animals would be safe. Wonderful.

Outstading Location and Worderful Hosts

by TripAdvisor Member dkzg

Our stay at Oriental Kwai was fantastic! Djo, Evelien and their growing family were great hosts and provided a great place to begin our travels in Thailand. From the great staff, to the great rooms, to the fun pool - everything was immensely appealing. Our kids particularly loved the pancakes (Dutch style).

We would highly recommend this spot to relax, take in the surrounding areas and feel worlds away!

Fantastic Hotel

We (myself, husband and three kids under 8)stayed at this wonderful hotel a couple of weeks ago and had a great time.

The cottages are gorgeous, the food is delicious and well-priced and the staff are helpful and welcoming. They arranged for transport for us whenever we needed it and advised us on places to visit. My kids enjoyed the pool (and so did I!) and sitting on the verandah in the evenings.was pure bliss! An absolutely gem of a place and we wished we'd stayed longer than three days. We''ll definitely visit again when we next go to Thailand and this time we'll stay at least a week!
