Three Pagoda Pass

by kyleaz

How far is the Three Pagoda Pass from Kanchanaburi? Is it worth the visit? If I go across to Myanmar to shop can I get computer sofware? Will I have to pay again to get into Thailand and get another visa?
Regards,
Kyle

The pass is a little over 200 miles or about 340 km. I have not been there, as it was too far for my group, but check ou this page. I am sure you will need updated information about the border crossing as things are not exactly stable in the region.

Forgive my hasty spelling. I meant to say that the distance to the Pagodas is from Kanchanaburi. Cheers

Travel Tips for Kanchanaburi

Popular Student destination

by herzog63

I have visited Kanchanaburi several times. And each time I go I seem to meet a group of students that are doing a historical trip there. If you want a chance to meet some friendly Thais and don't mind chatting for a while just approach a group of students and say Sawat dee krap and you will be friends for sure!! Most of the students speak fairly good English. And they love to practice!! This picture here is from 1984. I still remember the day as they approached me and wanted their photo taken and the girls were trying to orgnanize the boys into straight lines to make a nice photo.

Packing...

by CandS

During the day you may need a small backpack but do without if you can...it's too hot & humid to be carrying something on your back all day... It could be easier just to carry a bottle of water and some cash... Take good walking shoes because you will be bound to come across uneven surfaces and you'll do a lot of walking around the area. We were advised to take malaria tablets by our doctor...although we didn't see too many mozzies we both got bitten. Take HEAPS of film or memory cards...you'll need them...especially if you go to the Tiger Temple or for an elephant ride... ;)

Bike Hire

by Willettsworld

I hired a bike for an afternoon in order to get around the sites as they are quite spread out. I hired it from a place along the road that goes to the Bridge over the River Kwai from the Allied War Cemetery. It cost 30B for the afternoon and I think they charge 50B for the whole day.

Worth a visit even if you aren't staying here

The Thai food here is authentically spicy and we haven't had a bad meal here. Prices start at 25B to about 60B, so it doesn't hurt your wallet. Unfortunately not all of the staff smile, having said that they are not rude. The restaurant is nothing special, but do look out for the water features and frog statues.

Beer is very cheap as well 50B for large Chang, 60B for large Leo and Singha. Several favourites- I can't narrow it down to one sorry. Avoiding the red curry, delicious but extremely hot. It made my lips swell up and has to be the hottest thing that I have ever eaten.

Inside the main Prang enshrines the image of the future Buddha , Phra Sri Ariya Metreiya. And also some of the future Buddha carvings can be seen on the inner wall.
