1 Day trip to Floating Market & Kanchanaburi

by monicathen

I'm planning to cover Floating Market & Kanchanaburi in 1 day trip this coming March. How far to travel from Bangkok to floating market and then to Kanchanaburi?

To save time, we would like to charter taxi to cover the journey from Bangkok -> Floating Market -> Kanchanaburi. Any better comment or recommendation apart from charter taxi to cover the above?

Hello

If you are going into Khao San Road, you will find a lot of travel agencys, who offers this trip to the floating market and Kanchanaburi.
Maybe its cheaper than a taxi.

There you can book everything you like :-)

Have fun!

Hi We did each of these trips on separate days, there is so much to cover. I suggest you look at my Kanchanaburi page and what you see we did on a one day coach trip, hotel pickup at 7am and then returned 6 pm.

As for Floating market we had a full day trip , floating market & long boat ride,Elephant Show, Crocodile Show, and Snake show. See my Bangkok pages.

I suggest you get the detail and time spent at each location for your one day trip and then decide.
Good Luck, Mike

Travel Tips for Kanchanaburi

Sai Yok Noi Waterfall

by CandS

We stopped off quickly one day at the Sai Yok Noi Waterfall...there were heaps of locals and some tourists there enjoying the cool water from the falls... There are plenty of places to stand/sit under the falls or in the flowing water. It is a really beautiful area!!!

Pretty Waterfalls and Parks

by yen_2

This 550sq kms. park is the most visited national park in Thailand and is one of the most beautiful parks. Once in the park, you will have to walk 2kms from the trail entrance to the end of seven levels of waterfalls (the first step is reached 700 metres from visitors' centre), which feed into the Kwai Yai River. The trails weave in and out of the numerous pools and falls, sometimes running alongside the water, sometimes leading across footbridges. The shape of the topmost fall is said to resemble Erawan, the three headed elephant of Hindu-Buddhist mythology.

The waterfalls here and elsewhere in Kanchanaburi are best visited during the rainy season or in the first two months of the cool season, when the pools are full and the waterfall is most impressive. The peak crowds at Erawan come in mid-April around the time of the Songkran Festival (when there is not much water), weekends can also be crowded. The park is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the admission fee is 25B.

Get a set of wheels

We decided to explore a bit more. After advice from an expat that we know here, we hired a 125cc moped from the bike place to the right of the Jungle bar. It cost us 200B for 24 hours. The moped was reliable.

Jungle Bar is further down to the right, on the opposite side of the road to the Jolly Frog. Mae Nam Kwae Road.

Erawan waterfall is a must ! Stunning setting, monkeys playing in the trees around you and the waterfalls are fantastic. Seven falls in all, but if you are not feeling fit, just go far far as the second one and swim in the pools under the falls. Wear sensible shoes esp if it is wet!!

JEATH WAR MUSEUM

by balhannah

This museum is located in Kanchanaburi and just a short walk away from the River Kwai bridge. The Museum is about the Death Railway as well as other interesting pieces to do with the War. The word "Jeath" comes from the six main Nationalities that worked on the line. They were Japan, England, Australia, America, Thailand, Holland. The Museum is located on the banks of the River Kwai inside the Temple "Wat Chai Chumphon" The Bamboo Hut that you see in the Museum is an exact replica of the one the men were forced to live in. There are old Cars & Motorbikes, Photos, and written accounts of what their life was like. I found it an interesting Museum.
In the yard, I was lucky enough to come across a big Iguana. I was told he was 15 years old.

Open daily 8.30 -4.30 pm
Admission 2009 was 30tb
