by austarman
This War Cemetery is also known as the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery. It is located opposite Kanchanaburi's Railway Station on Saengchootoe Road. It contains the remains of 6,982 Australian, Dutch and British war prisoners who lost their lives during the construction of the Death Railway.
Old Fashioned Ruins
by HasTowelWillTravel
Muang Singh Historical Park along Route 323 houses some ruins from the early Thai Kingdom that have been partially re-claimed by the jungle. Unlike other areas of Thai ruins, they are not refurbished, so the original brickwork is laid bare. You are able to witness the large bricks that made up the area. And, due to its more remote location on highway 323, there are very few people there. Much fewer than at Sukhothai. So you have more time to explore on your own, feel as if you're an expeditionary archaeologist.
Coach

Most of the local tours in local agencies used this kind of mode in going to the other countryside. Like this one, it depends on how many people are there in one type of tour. But, I like it in a smaller group as you don't have to wait for all those other people around and they're just taking pics on anything..heheh
Elephant Riding
by PBY
I have been to Kanchanaburi twice. Once during a business trip (life's tough eh?) and once on holiday. The first time I went to an elephant park where the elephants performed for our amusement. I find this particularly distasteful and didn't enjoy it at all. So this time I ensured that it was only an elephant ride and nothing more.
It was immensely enjoyable but not everyone in our party was completely at ease at being so high up on a beast with a mind of its own - especially after reading the page of "don'ts" at the entrance, not to mention the disclaimer.
The ride lasts about 30 - 40 minutes and the animals seem well cared for and very playful
This camp was called Somnuk Elephant Camp should anyone else share my aversion for performing animals.
PS I can see that giving rides could be construed as performing but I have seen elephants "working" all over SE Asia so I personally find it more acceptable.
