Budget Beachfront Bungalows

This is an amazing beach resort to stay at. While it lacks some of the full features of a 4 or 5 star resort, the low price and beautiful rooms more than make up for it. We booked 3 bungalows for our family that were right on the beach. The ability to open the door and walk 2 meters to the beach was the main selling point for us to stay here.
Some people have complained about rocks on the beach but they are not a big deal and easy to get around and if they are a problem for you, you can walk 25 meters north on the beach and be away from them.

The service here was excellent. When we first checked in we found that our hot water shower was not working. I informed the front desk and they told me they would fix it. I was expecting this to take an hour or two but was very surprised to find a maintenance man waiting for me at my bungalow after leaving the front desk.

There is a small, shallow pool at this resort and it was clean and cool. Some people might complain about the size of the pool but the pool is not what you go to the beach for, right?

The restaurant at Banpu Koh Chang was a bit pricey and the food was ok. The breakfast buffet really was not that good at all. However, there were many places for us to eat right across the street or within a 5 minute walk.

The only downside to staying at the White Sands Beach area was all the "lady bars". Well, it's not so much a downside if your a single man. However, if traveling with children it is best to avoid walking around after dark as all the girls in the bars are not afraid of trying to call you in. They don't seem to care that you have kids with you, or your wife is with you, or your mother in law.

Don't stay at Banpu Koh Chang for the food or drinks, stay for the great rooms right on the beach for a wonderfully low price. Our 3 day, 3 bungalow stay cost less than $200 USD during the slow season. You should expect to pay a little more if going between October and April.

Best time to visit November/December or February

by karateka

We are thinking of taking our honeymoon on Ko Chang & would like to know when would be the best time to go? I have been trying to find info on the web but would like some personal advice.
We have read that it can get quite cold in the evenings during November/December due to evening winds & that the sea is too rough to swim in also at that time. However we would like to go when it is quieter & not too hot during the day.
Would we be better off going in February? Is the sea calmer then & is it OK in the evenings?
Any advice is much appreciated.

regards,
P

I would suggest that any of those months would be fine - August is the wettest month and the wet season is really from May to November (start).

Be aware that Xmas and New Year are the peak season on KC and it is advisable to book then - the island is especially popular with Thai tourists over the New Year now.

Dec to Feb is the "cool dry" season, but unless you come from a tropical climate yourself, you won't find it cool. It will be pleasantly cool at night 20C to 25C - you might not even want a fan or air, and about 30 C in the afternoon.

Travel Tips for Ko Chang

Ko Chang

by sachara

The island of Ko Chang, meaning elephant island, is Thailand's second largest island after Phuket. Ko Chang is situated in the province of Trat in the east of Thailand close to the border with Cambodia.

Ko Chang is a tropical marine national park. It consists of over 70% virgin rainforest. The island of Ko Chang is a very scenic island with white sandy coves and beaches, pristine rain forests and abundance of wildlife and marine life, coral reefs, high mountain peaks and , several scenic waterfalls.

When I visited Ko Chang for the first time it was an unknown destination. Nowadays the accommodation on the island ranges from simple beach huts and bungalows to luxury villas, suites and apartments. I reads that you can hire motorbikes, jeeps and cars to take you to any of the beaches along the coastal roads and that there are are plenty of restaurants, live music bars and nightclubs. My first visit to an unspoilt island in the 80s.

TRAVEL GEAR FOR CHANG

by mamasan69

Strong and secure luggage or backpack would be a wise choice. Light and comfortable clothing is a must, good shoes for hiking in the jungle would also be good. The usual bathroom gear and maybe even a small medical kit, just in case. A good quality camera to capture the wonderful sites. Sunglasses and good sunscreen

Going Around the Island

by aukjejetty

A very pleasant way to explore the island is by motorbike. You can rent them all over the island and around $5 a day. The roads can be a little bit tricky, because they are not so wide and there are many unexpected turns. Which makes is sometime impossible to see if there is traffic coming from the opposite side.
The good thing about going around on the motorbike is open air. In one day you can explore the whole island.

Catarata-Waterfall

Catarata-Klong Plu-Waterfall

Siguiendo el rio por unos caminos que van en una zona de mucha vegetacion se llega a la zona de la catarata despues de 20 minutos de caminar. Aqui puedes estar tranquilamente o te puedes incluso banar en el rio

Following the river in a path that goes in an area with a dense vegetation you reach the waterfall, after 20 minutes walking. Here you may stay peacefully or you may take a swim in the river

Night market in Trat

by sunshinee
