Transport From Trat (Koh Chang) To Pattaya

by kevinborg

I'd like to know what's the best means of transport to travel from Koh Chang in Trat to Pattaya? Are there any good links by ferry/boat or by bus? Pls also give me a rough idea of the duration of the journey and the prices. What interests me is the route Koh Chang (Trat) - Pattaya only.Thanks...

Just an advice,I was in Trat couple years back, missed the bus to Bangkok at the Bus Station, a tuk-tuk driver approached and offered to take me to Pattaya, don't remember how much exactly but quite expensive, was in a hurry so took the ride, the trip was hair raising, too fast on the winding road at night, the journey took around 5 hours, pretty scary, so, no matter what, DON'T take the tuk-tuk.

The road between Bangkok to Trat via Pattaya is popular with travellers and there is a daily minbus service. I have not been to Trat before but guess there will be a travel agent or guesthouse somewhere in town that will be able to arrange this for you. Travelling in Thailand is pretty easy. you can always use the local buses aswell.

If you take the minibus, you might change minibus in Bang phe where travellers depart for the ferry to Koh Samet. From Bang Phe they go direct to Bangkok or to Pattaya then onto Bangkok.

I travelled Koh Chang to Pattaya in 2008 and 2009. For cost and convenience I could not go past the VIP minibus service. 650 baht door to door. Prebooking essential. They pick you up (and others) to meet the 11am ferry back to the mainland. Two pit stops, one for lunch, and one at the ferry terminal for Koh Samet in Rayong. Arrive in Pattaya around 5pm and they will drop you off wherever you want. One of the best services in Thailand IMHO.

Travel Tips for Ko Chang

Whitesand Beach

by YaaDong

Whitesand beach on the weststern side of Koh Chang is a lovely long stretch of beach with aqua blue sea .Most of the resorts and huts are located in this area. However ,if you head down towards Whitesand resort at the end of the beach you will still find uncrowed beach.Pefect for swimming ,laying around, long walks and watching evening sunsets. Swimming ,walks and sunsets.

Building the roof with palmleaves

by sachara

At the newly built campement where we stayed when we visited Ko Chang for the first time in the 80s the toilet unit and the open air restaurant were not finished yet. During our stay they were still building.

It was very interesting to see how they constructed the roof with palmleaves, using the natural materials of the environment. During breaks the craftsmen were always playing cards. Adrie, the only one of us who could speak a bit Thai mostly join them.

Hiking & Exploring

by YaaDong

Walk to the end of Whitesand Beach and go around the rocks to try to get to the next beach. We tried to go as far as we could passing a couple of guys trying to get an "all over "tan (not really allowed in Thailand ). Well ...we didn't make it because as it became too difficult to walk. However ,at least we got a nice view of Whitesand beach... that is.

Hat Sai Khao/White Sands Beach

by bijo69

White Sands is the most developed settlement of the island. You'll find a wide range of accommodation here aswell as loads of restaurants and shops.

The beach is not that wide, but quite nice.

Go snorkelling

by bijo69

There are a lot of great snorkelling spots around Koh Chang. There are different companies which offer day tours. The tours usually include mask & snorkel (no fins though), lunch, fruits and drinks.
The price is somewhere between 600-800 THB and includes pick-up from your accommodation.
