From bus station to hotel

by xuanthien

Hello,

I am going to Pattaya next week and will stay at Royal Twins, Pattaya 2nd road. I would like to ask how to get from bus station to the hotel and vice versa. I will take bus from Ekamai in Bangkok. And how to get to the pier for the ferry to Ko Lan island.

Thanks,

Thien

There will be share taxis at the bus station. The taxis will look like blue pick-up trucks with benches in the truck bed and a roof over the benches. A ride to the Royal Twins would cost you about 20-40 baht per person if there are others in the truck, otherwise if the driver takes you alone the cost may be up to to 100baht during the day. The ride will be short, maybe 10-15 minutes.

Taxis in Pattaya are either motorcycles or pick-up trucks so don't feel silly getting in the back of the truck. Normally the trucks run certain routes so you just flag one down anywhere (they will stop whether you want a ride or not) and ride to your destination - ring the bell in back of the bed to get the driver to stop. Normally, a ride in the truck always costs 20baht per person along a set route. Moto taxis will negotiate based on distance.

From the Ekamai Bus station make sure you buy your bus ticket at the Pattaya (VIP) bus window! AVOID the much slower (4-5 hour) local bus that sells tickets on the bus! The ride will take just over 2 hour, the VIP bus has a toilet and the other bus doesn't!

The only time you pay 20 baht for a baht bus ride is from the bus station to Beach Road or from the Walking Street area to Jomtien - the rest of the time you only pay 10 baht for a baht bus ride! (When you are settled into your hotel.) Wave a moving baht bus, hop on and when you get to where you want to get off or change to a baht bus going in a different direction - push the buzzer/bell and get off - pay 10 baht! (Was 10 baht last month anyway.)

To get to the pier for Koh Larn Island - go from your hotel to Beach Road, take a baht bus going to Walking Street. Walk down Walking street about 10 - 12 minutes and the Bali Hai Pier will be on the right. Go INSIDE to purchase your ticket for the ferry. The price a few months ago was 20 baht. There was a sign just inside the building and a person selling the ferry ticket. If you purchase the ticket outside from a tout you will pay more for the same ride!

Enjoy your stay in Pattaya.

SirHal is right, 10baht per person for the truck taxi. My apology, I guess I was thinking in inflation brain patterns.

Thanks GSD and SirHal for your information. I feel more confident in getting there now.

Travel Tips for Pattaya

Cockroaches Fresh & Fried!

by RoyJava

Ofcourse we, wanderlusty tourists, do know our immune system has been disordered and we should change our eating habits. That it means, too, we should consume cockroaches, bees, scorpions and other insects goes some ideas too far, ... huh???

Well, we could try to look for the street stalls and vendors, only for a watch! And see the healthy Thai people on your holiday all around who don't mind eating a bug, an insect, a reptile ... so, here are some photographs that probably gives you the creeps. You can find these bugs all over, and maybe around the corner of your hotel ... c'mon, just try one!!!

RUN FORREST RUN

by STRATOS79 about SOI 6 (YODSAK)

The notorious soi 6 or soi Yodsak can be a little bit of a shock for many visiting this road for the first time trying to walk this road is not easy especially with many girls screaming and try to crab you. This street have mostly closed air conditioned beer bars from both sides of the road

ITALIANA in PATTAYA? Don't drool at the displays!

by travelagent4thailand about PAN PAN

PAN PAN was founded by an italian owner....he started out by merely making ice cream (first branch in bangkok)...and made home deliveries (back in the days).

He then did simple italian dishes when he ventured into the restaurant business....today, it's MMMM...ma, ma miaaaa!!! Even your mom would dazzled with the food at this joint.

Simple, air conditioned, the restaurant boasts more than a dozen homemade ice cream flavors from watermelon to tiramisu! And a large variety of bakery goodies....that's all at the entrance!

So seat yourself and take a look at the menu. I must say that it's not enough to list just a favorite dish! I grew up eating at this place : )

well, try the SPAGHETTI VONGOLE BIANCO...oh yes, fresh clams with white wine sauce that will be sure to spin your palate.

for hungry fellas go for the SOGLIOLE ALA PARMAGIANA....sole gratinee with cheese. my, that really hit my spot.

forget the pizza, go for the closed pizza stuffed with cheese/salami/spinach! CALZONE DI SPINACI....you wouldn't be surprised why the italian's flag color is the way it is.

LAST, but not least, my favorite was the ESPRESSO CAKE to go with my capuccino.

that did it, take me home honey....
