staying in pattaya in july and just wondering if a trip to chanthaburi for a couple of days is recommended , is it easy to get to from pattaya ?? are there nice beaches and reasonable accommodation ?? is it quiet / hectic ??

thanks you guys , templemonkey , checked your koh chang page and didn't find any ref to bars , nightlife , we are 2 guys travelling in july , should we bring girls with us ??? we just want to chill on a nice beach during the day , accomodation on the beach , and have a few beers at night in couple of bars , any recommendations would be most welcome

Located about half hour from Pattaya following the road from Sukhumvit road to Sattaship you can find the big Buddha image 70 meters high in Pattaya and probably in the biggest in Thailand dedicated to the royal family before entering the big Buddha image there is a beautiful park with small paths
These tuk-tuks, which are ute vehicles but the rear has seats and a cover, have their own set routes around Pattaya. Usually, a standard fare for a standard distance is about 20 Baht. They are an economical way to get around.
Another cheaper option than a taxi, are motor bikes. For around 20 to 40 Baht, you may get a motor bike and take you wherever you like. It's quite fun!

This is a pizza chain that's located outside the Royal Garden Plaza that you can find all over Thailand that's very similar to a Pizza Hut or a Dominos in the west. I filled myself up with a few of their pizzas during my travels around Thailand as it was nice to take a break from rice and noodles once in a while. They do pan crust, crispy crust, cheese crust pizza types with a large range of toppings and combo meals. For desert, you can go upstairs to Swensons Ice Cream which I highly recommend.
Away from the noisy Pattaya bar scene, Hat Jomtien is a reasonably good alternative to Hat Pattaya. That being said, the beach itself is rather meagre (see pic), and the swimming is mediocre due to rough surf. Not much else to do during the day in Pattaya, so probably worth the 30 baht taxi ride down.
In Pattaya I got to tour a resort stlye temple that is being constructed. You take an Elephant to the temple and see artisans constructing every little facet. However, it seems like the whole thing is being constucted just for tourism; so its not a very authentic experience.
There is nothing better in the world than to go Jet Ski or Paragliding in the middle of January. I choose to go to Pattaya instead of Bangkok because I needed to see the beach, and I know I will see Bangkok in the next couple of years.
