Shall I cancel my trip to Thailand ?

by amper5

have seen plenty about the political trouble in BKK, yesterday my travel agent called to ask whether I want to cancel the trip and go elsewhere. My trip is booked on 24th and the plan was 3 days in BKK + 18 days in Pattaya + 3 days back in BKK, can anybody tell me about the situation in Pattaya, has there been any impact at all ? is it still worthwhile of going to BKK ?

Thanks !!

There is nothing for tourists to worry about. Pattaya has not been affected by any problem, and in Bangkok you would have no idea that there has been anything happening. Everything is as normal.

an A-bomb good g off in Pattaya and no-ne would notice!

Pattaya is blissfully unaware of any of the problems and unaffected.....as is most of Bkk.

Your only concern should be blocking of public transport, but seeing as Pattaya is only a taxi-ride from Bkk, there should be no problem.

Having said that, Thailand is famous for sudden changes in govt, either through legal means or by coup......but the last coup was bloodless and disruption minimal.
Also, Thai news services are not the best....you might be better off getting news from Australia or even Europe.

hi, if your travel agent has asked if you still want to go, they no doubt know more about the problems, if it were me i would go someone else for now, when the trouble has gone, then book to go, no point going someone where if right now it is not safe, hoildays are for forgetting your worries not adding to them. where ever you choose stay safe and have a great time. maria.

Go. Not really much "trouble" aside from a few specific locations during one or two nights.

I'd be more concerned whether your travel agent explained to you exactly what Pattaya is like.......18 days there is a lot especially depending on your tastes.

When the Thai government declared Bangkok as a state of emergency, all airlines give the right to all passengers already booked to change or cancel their bookings without any penalty. This action is to protect themselves and travel agents do that too to protect themselves.

The travel agent will not tell you whether it is safe to go or not as being a professional, they can't tell you as they do not want to get into trouble.

Just my 2 cents :)

I left Pattaya about 5 days ago - no problems! Most of the demonstrations are either down south or located mostly in one area of Bangkok. Avoid that part of Bangkok and you should be okay. With fewer tourists going to Thailand you can expect some deals on hotel prices. You will have an easier time getting a room in Pattaya with a walk in too!

Take a chance. You could go to another country for your holiday and spend more money. There could even be some sort of political problem in some other country you visit - who knows??

Travel Tips for Pattaya

by RoyJava

Not that popular though still famous out of ancient times is the Kinnari, a bizarre image of a bird-woman. She is a mythological creature with upper-body (head, arms and torso) of a woman, and the lower part of the body of a swan. Well, that's the original version which is Burmese. Later bird-women do has the feet, wings and tail of a bird, sometimes an eagle. Also named a Bidadari.

This female creature is famous while the Palace Wat Phra Kaew, Bangkok, has also some of these images. And downtown Bangkok you can find some. The ancient Kinnari was famous for her knowledge, her dance and poetry and got the symbol of feminine beauty. Also Buddha was a Kinnara, the male version, is told. I felt happy to see this female creature in Pattaya. Go to the WAT CHAIMONGKRON (see link), enjoy this monastery and beauty of Kinnari, and all other images there ...

Happy Hour

by trevndebs about Peppermint Palace

Situated in Walking Street, go up the escalators and you're in the Peppermint Palace.
Highly recommend this bar for its happy hour which includes the mixer drinks 2 for the price of 1( usually they aren't included).
Cabaret inside is geared for the men with lovely Thai girls in a variety of uniforms and bikinis.
Drinks are average price for Pattaya which makes the happy hour such good value.
Non threatening environment, many female tourists inside with their partners. Any

Dining with the Pink Lady

by filipdebont about Pink Lady Restaurant

This is my number one restaurant in Pattaya.
Also because it is located not so far from my Hotel in Soi 8. But mostly because of the variety of fine dishes.

Here in this restaurant you heave a great choice of different meals at great prices.

It goes from the international kitchen with steaks, burgers, spaghetti, over the real spice Thai food, they also serve Chinese food and a big variety on daily fresh seafood (shrimps, crabs, lobsters ...) My favourite dish: that is a difficult question to answer.
There are so many dishes I like here in this Pink Lady restaurant.

I really like the fried rice with pork or chicken with an egg topping, the fried noodles are also one of my favourites. And if I am in European mood I also like a wiener schnitzel.

Bars! Bars! Bars!

by lightknight2

Pattaya has this cool walking street that is closed to vehicles from 6-7pm onwards. This two lane road springs to life as Thai girls pour out from the bars in scanty clothings trying to attract attention of Caucasian males. They usually leave couples alone so ladies, don't leave your husbands!

Alcoholic drinks are relatively cheap due to stiff competition from the other bars.

Coral islands (Ko Larn) are situated at about 8 km (45 – 50 minutes) away from Pattaya City. Laem Bali high port can be found on the end of Walking street where you can choose between a normal or speed boat. Tawaen Beach , is the most famous place of the island Ko Larn has a relaxing atmosphere and clear waters but it is best to be avoid during the high season because it is too overcrowded
