pattaya/bangkok to Cambodia

xx

Short answer...Yes.

There are 2 crossings used by many. Poipet / Aranyaprathet and the Trat - Koh Kong Border. The former is really rather unpleasnt and over crowded...a bit of the wild west.
The other is less so but always be prepared for chiselers and touts. Not tto mention a few corrupt immigration officials.

Both are accessible form Pattaya or Bkk. You will find many travel shops offering minibus or coaches that way. There are many who offer "visa runs" to people who just want to go to the border and back in a day.

there shpold also be through trips to Siam Reap.

NB - July is getting into the wet season and so it may be worth checking out the condition of the roads before going.

Try these for info..

THere are several othe r crossings now - see map on second web site.

If i were you i would spend a little bit more and fly to either Siem Reap or Phnom Penh, the road between Siem reap and the border really is terible, and i do meaen TERRIBLE. 9 hours from Bangkok, I havnt been to Pattaya but im sure there will be loads of travel agents willing to take you. If you decide on the road i think its about 25US dollars ish, if you fly to Phnom Penh dont forget a 20 dollar US note for the Airport tax when you arrive.

two things...you can fly direct ot Siem Reap from Bkk with Bangkok Air who basically are pretty expensive as they are the only airline to offer this run.

secondly, take a wad of US dollars in one dollar bills. They accept dollars everywhere but give change in the virtually unchangeable Riel. So if you don't want to accumulate a load of change in a worthless currency make sure you have small denominations of dollars.

Travel Tips for Pattaya

quieter/nicer beach 10 mins for pattaya

by geoffcarter

ok if you are sick of getting asked to buy stuff and want to relax more, there are some lovely quiet beaches, with food and drink availabe just minutes walk from pattaya main beach.
how to find them? if you are facing the beach at pattaya with hotels behind you, walk to the right to the end of the beach. it looks like youve reached the end. carry on walking around the rocks and it will open up to many beaches, less populated, and quieter for a peaceful sunbathe. the further you go the more beaches youll have to choose from. toilets are in the local hotels therewas no problem using their facilities. also you can get some lovely sunset photos. but be careful it doesnt go too dark before you set off back as there are no lights. if you find yourself with the dark closing in fast just cut through one of the hotels onto the back road which leads back to pattaya.

BAHT BUSES

by RoyJava

The baht buses or locally known as "songthaews" are the pickup trucks (mini buses) which cruise Thanon Hat Pattaya and Th Pattaya frequently. All tourists have been fooled by paying far too much! And complained having been charged a higher charter price. Between Naklua included the Dusit area and South Pattaya you only pay 5 Baht (TBT), or 10 TBT as far as JomTien for one person.

Jump in, and pay the fare after you have stepped out! Sounds ridicalous, price lists posted in the back of the vehicles state the maximum amount drivers can charge for any given journey, though. In Thai language,... and in English! When not... bad luck, but for now you know the price!

Pattaya : you'll love it or hate

"Remarkable city"

Pattaya is a remarkable city. It's a seedy town and not for the faint of heart. If you are easily offended then my advise is don't go, but it is also a wild party town with some of the cheapest and best value dining and accomodations in the Far East. Bangkok is known as sin city around the world, but most of the action is concentrated into select areas. Pattaya on the other hand is city wide. There is also more western expats than any other place I have ever visited. Pattaya also has some of the best value golf courses of anywhere in Asia.
