* Kaeng Krachan National Park *

by hamster_jay

"Thailand's widest National Park"

Kaeng Krachan forest is the habitat of wildlife, the source of rivers and streams, the sponge to wash the air for man breathing and the natural library for non-stop studying. There are a lot of interesting activities such as scenery viewing, nature studying, birds and butterflies watching, jungle trekking and downstream drifting.

I have read some information about the uniqueness of Kaeng Krachan forest from Trip Magazine, it says " Once, on one occasion at his summer's Palace Klai Kang Won, HM the King visited Kaeng Drachan Dam on October 29, 1979 and made a royal statement giving to Mr. Thanom Premrasmi, the Director General of Forestry Department then. The statement was "For the sake of the source of rivers and streams in Petchaburi, the authority should take good care of the forest to prevent an illegal deforestation that will cause dryness. Although some concessions to work a forest have been granted, the authority must keep the work from being a deforestation." The rayal statement quoted reflects HM the Kings's foresight that this forested area will become the vital source of rivers and streams with beautiful landscape of different kinds from waterfalls to cliffs as well as wildlif. The highest peal in this area is that of Panoenthung which is 1,207 meters high. The average height of the land in the Park is about 500 meters from the sea level, most of them are granite hills with some limestone ones. Many places in the area are abundant of fluoride. As the area is encircled with a humid thick forest, the humidity is high resulting in a lot of rainfall and a cool weather all year long. About 90% of the overall area are of origin forest with woods of economic value such as Ormosia, Sandalwood, Para rubber, Lagerstroemia, Pterocarpus, Eaglewood, etc. Wildlife found includes elephants, bisons, bantengs, mountain goats, tigers, panthers, barking deer, deer, langurs, gibbons, jungle gowls and birds of over 400 species."

"Panoenthung Scenic point"

I went up to Panoenthung by hiking. The way to the Scenic Point is so rough. My car cannot go up there. The only kind of car which can climb up is 4WD. The driver is very very, very, good at climbing up and up. When we reach the scenic point, it worth trying ... really worth because it's so beautiful. I went to Kaeng Krachan two times, first time with my friend and second time with my family. I went to see the sea of fog with my friend but I didn't go with my family. Next time if I have a chance, I'll take them there to see what I saw.

"Little Stream"

This cool stream is behind Ban Krang Campsite. First time I went there, I didn't go down there but for my second time, I went to wash my hair in the stream. The water is very, very cold. I really love this place.

"Bird Watching"

This is the way up hill to the forest near Ban Krang Camp. If you like birds watching, this is the way to enjoy it.

"Panoenthung Camp"

This is the only way up to Panoenthung Campsite and Panoenthung Scenic Point .. 4WD ..

"Blue sky @ Panoenthung"

The bright blue sky at Panoenthung Scenic Point is always worth trying up to see.

"Beautiful Tree Road"

The road to Ban Krang and Panoenthung. This view cannot be seen at the way up but when we went down, it appeared to our sight.

"Me @ Panoenthung Scenic Point"

... I was told to take this photo as to proof that I was there once in my life ...
