Phra Nakhon Khiri
by dabuwan
The Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park hill ("Khao Wang") should not be missed. The monuments up there are maybe not of great historical value, but they are very fine buildings and the whole surroundings are very nice and fascinating.
It is also a good place to meet and talk to other thai tourists, as there always many of them around.

A ruin temple is now just ubosot survived but without roof. This temple ‘s famous in stucco decoration which depicted about about Buddha story as the main story. The building and all decoration was built in Ayudhaya period. For me ,I think the stucco ‘s soooo high relief . I ‘ve never seen this style before but so enjoy to see them, esp. a strange building stuccos.
Nearby ‘s small Ayudhaya chedi which said to be built in King Phetraja of Ayudhaya kingdom.

"On the mountain"
In the late 19th century, King Mongkut (Rama IV) built a hill-top palace on the outskirts of Petchaburi town, just 50 km north of Hua Hin.
Phra Nakhon Khiri Palace or Khao Wang Palace had its own observatory, overlooking the river and sea. It was here the King embarked on a study of astronomy that culminated in him accurately predicting the exact time of a solar eclipse.
This 92-metre hillock is on the northern approach to Phetchaburi provincial capital. Phetchaburi residents refer to it as Khao Wang, literally Palace Hill.
"Going up"
The area is now known as Phra Nakhon Khiri National Museum and is open to the public every day from 9.00 AM until 4.00 PM
You don't have to climb the steps to get to the top, there is a cable car that takes you there.
