Sunla Lodge: Sunla Lodge

About a 10 minute walk inland form the ferry point, the Sunla lodge is signposted through all the windy side alleys on Phi Phi Don. Its a brand new (well, was in 2001) guesthouse with ensuite rooms for just 300B for a triple.(£5).

Phi Phi Charlie Resort: Mass market mainstream

Perfectly acceptable package tour hotel with hundreds of guests.
The breakfast is of a good 4* standard.
The bungalow shed-style rooms are basic & small but very well maintained, with TV (bad reception and only Asian channels when we were there, so pretty pointless as most guests are not Asian) but wierdly a space for a fridge ... but no fridge.

Nice but tiny sit out area in front of each litte room, with two chairs. Sand pathways with many flowering shrubs and small trees make it quite pleasant. You can sort of see the sea through the front row buildings (they belong to next door resort)
I think the rooms in the main building are cheaper.

No pool or beach beds or anything, but passable restaurant & bar that fronts the beach.

It will do, if you can't afford anywhere more interesting. You don't spend much time in your room on Phi Phi Don!

Cheap.
Busy.

Tonsai Village: Phi Phi Don

(I'm sure you all know, but it's pronounced 'pee pee')
Decent, clean, wooden a/c (or fan) bungalow accommodation with ensuite facilities, mid price range.
Chairs and umbrellas on the sand in front.
Open air restaurant with acceptable but not exciting food.
Each bungalow has a tiny little sit out area on the sand with a couple of chairs.
Ask for one in the front row for an uninterrupted sea view (although all are on the beach anyway!)
Small rooms but we slept 3 OK!
Beach does fill up with day trippers rather, but they go home mid afternoon.
You can hire longtails from the beach to take you anywhere you want in the islands.

On the beach - gorgeous view, turquoise waters!
The week we stayed, the 'mini-bar' = our fridge having a half-bottle of Mekong whiskey in it!
Not a good way to rehydrate but it put a big smile on our faces once we had popped back out to buy mixers!
