Silver Reef Bed & Breakfast: The best place to be ...............

This is not my first time to Thailand, I had been in Pattaya so many time just getting bore now, so this time I tried Udon Thani ( Northeast ). Not a bad choice, it was late at night when I arrived by Thai Air so I went to Silver Reef that I' ve found on the internet, and heard alot about it. Brand new building, it is clean and has comfy room + best location to be ..........save money from taking a Tuk Tuk or any transportation, everything just with-in walking distance.
Well I was very happy there for a month, everything was reasonable. lots of night life, Udon Thani is expanding, many trourists go to Laso and do the visa run the bourder is just one hr away. Next time will come back to Northeast again ..............

Unique Quality: One month there at Silver Reef B&B I felt like home the bed is comfy and everynight I had good rest, not a big size of a hotel so not much noice at night. I felt very safe walking back to the hotel at 2 am in the morning, they have good people working for them. I would recommend to all my friends.

Cheer,

James Canada

Phitsanulok - The La Paloma Hotel: … little bit outdated …

We were welcomed on a board with “Welcome Mr/Mrs Van”, not quite our right name, but anyway very personal. But the staff at the desk was not that helpful and friendly. The hotel seemed a little bit outdated, little bit dull and dark inside. However our room was spacious and OK.
We didn’t use the swimming pool; there were almost no chairs or beds, neither other visitors.

Breakfast seemed to be very extensive, but for us Europeans there was just some toast and jam. When we were leaving there was a bell boy, but we had to carry our own luggage. Perhaps he was out of duty or in strike ??

Unique Quality: The hotel doesn't have a website (at least I couldn't find one), so you will have to book this hotel through one of the hotel booking sites or a travel agency.

Loei Palace Hotel: … luxury in the middle of 'nowhere' …

I think Loei is not a destination, which attracts many (foreign) tourists, but on a road trip through Northeast Thailand it is a decent place for a stopover. Because we couldn’t find much info (pictures) on the internet about other accommodations, we decided to stay at the luxurious Loei Palace Hotel. Every now and then you may spoil yourself !!

Indeed it is a real four star hotel: check in at an open air desk with a fresh squeezed glass of orange juice, bell boys, spacious room with fresh fruit and an impressive atrium. After unpacking we spent some time at the swimming pool with a fantastic view of the mountains.

We had dinner in the restaurant, but it was very difficult to order, because there was no employee, who spoke English. Therefore our meal was not too terrific.
Breakfast next morning was not what we expected (hoped) it would be and was nothing more than average. Farewell was by far not as warm and special as the welcome a day before.

Unique Quality: Very affordable luxury.

Nong Khai - Pantawee Hotel: ... good and bad ...

Coming from Khon Kaen along the motorway it was easy to find the Pantawee Hotel. There were some troubles with our reservation, but at last we got a very modern and spacious room, even with an ‘own’ computer including internet access. Our room was in a separate building, behind the hotel next to a small swimming pool. It was almost impossible to bring our duffle bags on the very narrow staircase to our rooms.

The public rooms in the ‘old’ building didn ’t have any charm and were not authentic at all. Suppose too much influence of the western owner. The other day we had a breakfast, which was rather disappointing and much too expensive.

Unique Quality: Affordable hotel (rooms from 700 Baht till 1800 Baht); staff not very friendly and helpful; cheerless and poor breakfast. Too many 'old' men with young Thai girls.
Located close to the city centre, Indo China market and the Friendship Bridge to Laos.

Satisfaction:
room/bed - very satisfied
atmosphere/staff/breakfast - somewhat till totally unsatisfied

Tip: opposite the Pantawee Hotel is a authentic Thai restaurant; although we had some problems ordering our meal, the owners tried to do everything to please us and we had a nice and (very cheap) meal.

Khon Kaen - Europe Guesthouse: .... basic and cheap guesthouse ....

We found this guesthouse on the internet and decided to make a reservation for just one night in Khon Kaen, particularly because the owner(s) were Dutch. It felt quite comfortable to stay in a guesthouse from a fellow countryman in a real Thai city almost without foreign tourists.

Europe Guesthouse has six rooms; we had a spacious one with a private bath, with airco. But to be honest we didn’t need it and could even sleep with an open window. We hoped to get a real Dutch breakfast, but that was rather disappointing and it turned out to be a very basic one. The second morning we had to wait a long time before the owner turned up and we could have our breakfast. When arriving very early on our first day (by appointment) it also took ‘hours’ before the door was opened. All together not a warm welcome !!

The guesthouse is on walkable distance of the centre of town and rather close Lake Bung Kaen Nakhon, one of the (few) sights of Khon Kaen.

Unique Quality: Europe Guesthouse is a perfect accommodation for travellers on a budget with ‘AC rooms’ starting at only 460 baht and ‘fan rooms’ at 150 baht .
Personally we would have liked some more ‘luxury’, a better service and a proper ‘Dutch’ breakfast.

Lamai Homestay: Hospitality in Koh Phet

We stayed 5 days and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and hospitality form Lamai, Jimmy and Lizzy. The breakfast is served on the porch as some old time colonials overlooking the landscape. It is the prefect place to stay and Jimmy drives you to all the nice places.

Unique Quality: Quiet
