Viewkong Hotel: Viewkong Hotel

We did not have a booking here, just walked in & after looking at a superior & deluxe room, we went for the Deluxe room at 900baht a night with breakfast ($29). The only difference between the two rooms was the deluxe had bigger windows so better views of the Mekong River. The hotel looks old, but I think that is mainly due to the mould on the outside of the building, the balconies and the hallways. But the lobby, restaurant &room was clean & the bed comfortable.

First night we went to the hotel restaurant/Karaoke (was very noisy in here ha-ha) & they had no Bacardi so I ordered a vodka & Cantaloupe juice for 100baht ($3.20) could not believe it when they bought out a jug of it with a straw, so cheap!!!! Gary's large bottle of Leo beer was only 75baht ($2.40)

Well breakfast was another story. No Western food here, no one spoke English & Gary had to show the cook the eggs & then they bought someone in to explain in Thai to the cook that he wanted them fried. Room service was also very cheap & delicious.

We stayed here for 2 nights and it is a good value for money hotel for exploring the surrounding area.

Nakhon Phanom Riverview Hotel: Nakhon Phanom's Finest

Stayed in the Riverview which is aptly named since it is alongside the Mekong River. Lovely hotel with nice, spacious rooms. Wood and marble. Stayed in the Superior room and was very comfortable and pleased. Cable TV, mini fridge etc. No in-room safe, but never felt apprehensive about belongings left in room. Large armoire and plenty of drawers. In general room nicely appointed, not luxurious but very comfortable. Staff very accommodating and a pleasure to interact with. Rates (low season) were very, very reasonable. Room service, laundry etc. very prompt and correct. Two very nice restaurants, reasonably priced. Breakfast for two included in room rate. There's a nice pool and the grounds are impeccably landscaped with the Mekong River Walk right behind the hotel. Gorgeous sunrises and sunsets over Laos. The views are beautiful and inspiring. I will definitely stay there again and would recommend to anyone wanting a reasonably priced, safe and comfortable place to stay in Nakhon Phanom.

The views of the mountains in Laos are almost surreal. Additionally, I would have to say that the staff of the hotel was absolutely wonderful. No problems with any requests and very helpful. Professional and very friendly at the same time. Lived up to LOS tradition.
