Candle Festival (Khao Phansa)
by Wann
I attend this festival and event almost every year, Khao Phansa Event. It's one of the most important events in the religious calendar. It be held in the eighth lunar month in July every year. Khao Phansa refers to the beginning of the Buddhist Lent.
During this time, Buddhist monks are restricted to their temples for a period of three months. Thai Buddhists will celebrate Khao Phansa in Buddhist temples in many provinces and Candle Festival is part of it. The days before the event, local people make ornately carved beeswax candles of various sizes and shapes.
On the festival day, the candles that each represents their district, are paraded around the town, accompanied by displays of religious devotion. After the procession, they are presented to local temples.

"Thao Suranari or Khun Ying Mo"
The city of Nakhon Ratchisima, also known as "Korat", is situated on a plateau, about 260 kilometers northeast of Bangkok. The city itself is commonly referred to as the Gateway to the Northeast. Like other parts of the Northeast, Korat was an important part of the ancient Khmer civilization, evidence still visible today by various ruins still standing in and around the city. The famous monument of Thao Suranari or Khun Ying Mo can also be found in Korat. It is situated in front of the old gate of "Pratu Chumpon" on the west side of the city. This monument was erected in 1934 to commemorate the heroic deed of Khun Ying Mo, wife of the Deputy Governor of Khorat during the reign of King Rama III, who managed to save the city from the invasion of the Laotian army led by Price Anuwong of Vientian.
"Prasat Hin Pimai"
Prasat Hin Pimai, Nakorn Ratchasima, features the largest group of Khmer buildings in Thailand, underscoring its importance as an important gateway to the Khmer kingdom in the south. The rectangular floor plan of old Phimai can still be traced on the ground while the four symmetrical gateways are clearly visible. The southern gate Pratuchai at the far end of the town's main street still stands facing Angkor Wat in Cambodia. During the height of the Khmer period a road linked the important site of Phimai with the capital Angkor. Phimai is one of the best examples of classical Khmer architecture in the style of Angkor Wat, outside Cambodia.
