Not sure where the places you want are located from Korat. I have always taken the bus to Korat. I think a bus is cheaper than the train.

From Korat see if you can find time to take a bus from there to Phimai. Nice restored temple, the Phimai Wat is located there. Also, largest Banyan Tree in Thailand and a museum. Also an exhibit on the way to Phimai is the Ban Prasat dig. I was a volunteer on 3 Earthwatch charity archeology digs operating out of Phimai. We stayed at the Phimai Inn on the main highway from Korat. Bus terminal (newer bus terminal) is almost across from the Phimai Inn.

Good luck.

Travel Tips for Nakhon Ratchasima

Wat Pa Salawan

by Wann

When you see word Wat Pa in front of the name of temple, you can picture the area of the temple with a lot of trees like a little forest. (pa = forest, wat = temple). Wat Pa usually is not located in town, locals come to take part in religious activities and also a place for practice meditation. Previously Wat Pa Salawan located outside the town but nowadays the town is getting bigger and bigger so the temple is in the living area now.

The area within the temple is peaceful and in the photo is the beautiful Chedi which just recently be built.

Chalermprakiet,the ancient elephant's cemetery

by pattayaraj

Under the ground of Tha Chang Sub-district and Chang Thong Sub-district of Chalermprakiet District, found a huge ancient elephant's cemetery which all stuffs was turned to be fossils and dated back to 25 million years ago. Almost elephant types in the fossils was extinct. About 100 elephant fossils was found in the sand mines all around this District. Some fossils exhibited in the 1st floor of Municipality office. On my visit to this exhibition, there 're others animal fossils like ancient giraffe,....
Apart from fossils, this district have a big 200 years Banyan tree.It was managed as public park for local. And you can enjoy the floating restaurant along the Mun river. The route begin from floating restaurant pier (closed to the bridge) run pass Banyan tree,Yang Dam,the joint between Lamtakong river and Mun river and the railway bridge where was the end of first railway from BKK to Nakhon Rachasima. This area,King VI used to visitted there and established the wood fossils monument on the side of railway.
