Tha Sadet Market

by andrze15

Is this market in Thailand or Laos? Laos is continually mentioned when I read about this market as is a visa for Laos... Though Nong Khai is in Thailand... Where exactly is this market? In Thailand or Laos?

Re: Tha Sadet Market

by qaminari

It's in Thai territory BUT on the pier for the ferry to Laos (so effectively it's as if you had already left Thailand) which is why, unless you happen to be a Thai trader, you have to have a visa for Laos to be able to visit it.

Tha Sadet is a peir where tourist can take a ferry across the Mekhong River to Tha Dua of Laos. However, they are required to obtain beforehand an entry visa from the Laos Embassy in Bangkok and contact Tha Sadet Immigration Checkpoint. Tha Sadet is a shopping area where numerous souvenirs and products from Laos are put on sale.

Pork...Pork & More Pork!

by imran8852

Nong Kai is popular for it Isan Sausage, Mu Yo & Naem (steamed pork bar & fermented pork) …you can see it everywhere. I guess this must be the local delicacies that are very popular with the tourist too.

immigration checkpoint to Laos

by imran8852

This is the immigration checkpoint to Laos. The traffic at the checkpoint seems to be smooth-sailing. From here Laos is just a stone throw away via the Friendship Bridge. The checkpoint and the train station aren’t that far though

Don't Forget Your Sweater!

by imran8852

There are three seasons in Nong Kai. The cold season is in October to February. During our visit the temperature drop to 15Celcius and we were told that it could drop to as low as 11Celcius or 12Celsius so don’t forget to bring your sweater if you come during this time of the year. Don’t fret if you forgot to bring your sweater…you still can buy it at Tsa Sadet Market for a very reasonable price.

Tha Bo

by imran8852

We guess this must be one of the Nong Khai province that is closest to Laos because someone told us that we can just cross over during the dry season but of course we’re not going to try that! This is the tobacco producing village. If you travel to Tha Bo, you can see tobacco being grown along both side of the road. The greeneries of the surrounding area surely will sooth the eyes of every traveller especially if they come from such a hectic city!
